I'm looking at adding a 4g router using the repeater function to my slate AX ontop of my current primary ethernet connection. Now I know I could use this as a failover but I'm looking at experimenting with load balancing. My only issue is that I run a constant VPN tunnel to an external provider. My question is, will the VPN still function correctly if the data being sent is being load balanced between two difference sources? Thanks!

You are looking for bonding, not load balancing. Bonding isn't supported - at least not without using AstroWarp.
For VPN you will need sticky sessions, so only 1 WAN link is used. This should happen by default on the router. So yeah, VPN will work - but it won't utilize load balancing.
