VPN MAC address policy and connecting outside the vpn

I've tried finding answers to this and they always seem to be not quite what I'm trying to figure out.

I have a VPN set up and one machine's MAC address is currently configured to use it. I'd like to make sure that that machine can't access the internet if the VPN is for some reason not working.

You can block non-VPN traffic in global settings, but that breaks everything for other clients on the network.

Router model is GL-MT6000.

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

VPN Policies include a kill-switch already.

If VPN fails, internet will not be reachable.

Please keep in mind that failing does not mean „manually disabling“. So if you manually disable it, the device will connect to the internet for sure.

Yeah, that's what threw me off a bit. I figured the router would probably do what I expect, but had no simple way to verify that.
