VPN-Wireguard-Android TV- split tunnel

Hey there,

Been trying to figure out how to exclude google chrome cast from being excluded via VPN. It seems the VPN prevents google chromecast from working due to ristrictions and I tried going to the IP section and exclude google chromecast from there but its still being affected?
I also tried performing it locally via the app on the google chromecast, same again...
Am i going to need to config every file for each service provider, netflix, disney, bbc iplayer, prime and this all being done in luci?

Excluding via MAC does not work either?

Nope, It's odd.
However, I just tried this very second on windows and it says on BBC i player, "BBC iPlayer only works in the UK. Sorry, it’s due to rights issues" This proxy is a UK connection. I have not chosen any other country proxy and now im on the subjejct of proxy. Should I just use open source proxy or better still the robin proxy instead of VPN?
I would be able to choose my own and have a library of open source proxy chains stacked up and if one fails it'll find another, just like a VPN but minus the DNS leak.
But...all that can get frustrating and time consuming and would like to just click a few buttons within glinet gui interface and connect. But...the apps on the android tv dont like any of the config files i download for the UK?

These files come from PAID (P) protonVPN config files

You need to understand that a Proxy or VPN will not help if the provider of the servers (like BBC) know about it. They won't allow VPN. So you need to try different servers, providers or even set up your own server in UK.

But, protonVPN can exclude the VPN by selecting the IP address of the host I need taken off the VPN. This IP is my android TV. But its still being affected??
Because I have a VPN running through the router to all devices, the app on android tv has found this before the exclude request and thus prevents it from loading.
Not only that, doing it locally via the android tv i choose split tunneling and perform the same method but again rejected because the router seems to trump all other requests

Pretty sure that those settings will only work if you connect via the official VPN application.
The router won't respect those settings.

Should I disable the routers VPN then?
Should I instead have proxmox take control and have proxy chains instead of VPN's
Should I finish completely with VPN's and rely on open source proxies?
Lost to be honest...

It depends on your needs, can't answer that.

If you want to avoid geoblocking but the servers of your VPN are detected ... you can only change the servers until you find a working one.

I don't like Proxys because they are less secure.

okay, thank you @admon :+1:

There is no need to run any ProtonVPN client when using the ProtonVPN config directly on the router.

I believe your problem is because you need to do your split tunnels / policy routing via the glinet router and it will work.

Make sure your VPN is not on global and its on policy based device, with use or don't use VPN list and then add your devices.

Again, if your router ProtonVPN client is running and it's set to global mode then all data is routed via the VPN hence it's trumps your request. Change to policy based device routing and don't use the client ProtonVPN app. Treat the glinet policy based routing as your ProtonVPN app so to speak.

Visit the link, scroll down to "Proxy mode"

Read all this but still got the same issue. Naturally, curiosity got the better of me and I thought of one possible senario. In the settings of the android tv "google chromecast" the vpn had a red indicator letting me know VPN is on. I had always known this but not looked inside the tab itself because I knew i was connected to the routers VPN. Suspicion got the better of me so i ended up taking a look inside and to my surprise the issue was resolved by clicking on an amber message asking me to reconnect. Once this was done the issue was resolved and can only guess it was some left over conflict of previous VPN selections that didnt get cleared
I didnt have to disable the router's VPN and the BBC iplayer can work as normal. To be honest. All IOT devices are smoother running, the VPN I chose I added 'malware, ads and trackers' combined with adguard the tv and my wifes laptop are loading much faster and my desktop is like on steriods
