WAN, Antennas, Novice Help

Routers are not my area of specialty, but I can get by. I just bought a Spitz GL-X2000 to install in a camper. What I'm mostly interested in is WAN to try and tie to the campground network and then in the future have room to grow.

My question is this (which I really can't seem to find the answer to). When setting up do I want to remotely install the antennas on the roof for better reception? Would that reduce the wifi in the trailer? Or is the antenna on the roof and the network around the camper and inside going to be better?

Thanks.

Hello,

If most of wireless client is inside the RV or near the outside of the RV, the WiFi antenna can be installed anywhere, I think the original attached antennas already meet your requirement, but depends on your scenario.

Scenario; in a campground. Network I'm trying to connect to is 100 + feet away. Trying to use the Spitz in repeater "mode" only to latch onto the campground wifi. Would it be better to mount antennas on roof, or does it matter?

Any tips?

I use cellular for WAN and WiFi from the router for the LAN side. I get that a cellular plan might be more expensive, but I find it more dependable.

You can purchase a higher gain WiFi / Cellular antenna.
You do also need to take into account the length of the cable between the antenna and the router port, there will be attenuation.

Why don't you try it out and see, first try with the original antennas on the router positioned inside repeating, and then try with the router mounted higher, and outside on the roof or a temporary pole setup.

It's gonna be dependent on the signal strength of the campground AP really.

I would say your router WiFi signal would be good enough anywhere in the immediate vicinity of your camper.

About 30 + meters, I think it can be connected if the WiFi antennas are using the original attached (indoor), but probably the repeater signal will be better if the WiFi antennas are using with feedline (outdoor), just try and compare.

Here is the response regarding the LTE and Wi-Fi antennas for the Spitz GL - X2000 router in your camper:

  1. LTE Antenna Requirements
  • Interface: SMA connector with "inner pin".
  • Frequency: 600 MHz – 2.7 GHz.
  1. Wi-Fi Antenna Requirements**
  • Interface: RP-SMA connector with "inner hole".
  • Frequency : 2.4G~2.5GHz, 5.15~5.84GHz.
Note: RV antennas typically use a "male thread + inner pin" design. If you have adapter accessories, they can convert this to the required "male thread + inner hole" (RP-SMA) interface.

Recommendations:
Whether to use the roof-mounted WiFi antenna depends on the signal strength of the campground network. If the relay signal is weak, it is recommended to use a higher-gain antenna connected to the roof-mounted WiFi antenna via a feeder cable to enhance reception. If the relay signal is strong, an indoor WiFi antenna will suffice.

Here are the recommended antenna models for different scenarios and devices:

For X3000

For X2000

@genki Here’s photos shared by a RV owner of GL-X2000 , which may be helpful to you: one WiFi uses the delivered antenna (indoor), and the other WiFi uses a feeder (outdoor).

Thank you.

I’ve been using the delivered antennas, both wireless and cellular but mostly cellular.

On my boat, on moorings and even out at sea while sailing.

I have had no need to remotely mount cellular antennas.

Thanks
