wireguard-tools is only used for quickly adjusting and configuring WireGuard VPN, and it is not outdated—essentially, it is just a collection of scripts.
It appears that the OpenWRT community has not updated this package for about four years:
If you encounter any issues, you may want to report them to the upstream community.
But that will change some reloading behaviours, most new things need to be added extra to support it in netifd/and software.
They mostly speak about the OpenWrt implementation while GL's software differs, though it is a nice change because they work around a issue you no longer need to restart the wireguard client when a peer has been changed.

it seems it’ll be backported to openwrt 25.12 and 24.10, so op24 based or upcoming op25 based glinet firmwares might include the change eventually someday, but older ones (such as op21 or op23 based qsdk or mtk) are not likely to get it, IMO
