Where in the world can I buy used GL.iNet devices?

Hello everyone.

I would like to create a topic for us - users of these devices, since not always users are ready or able to buy new devices. Please write on which platforms in your country you can buy a used device?

We all know that there is https://www.ebay.com/ or https://www.amazon.com/ but there are local MORE effective platforms for the domestic market in each country!

You can find all official platforms here: Where to Buy - GL.iNet

Please keep in mind that unofficial platforms might be without any support.

Hello. Thank you for your answer.

The problem is that the link you gave leads to the websites of online stores in some countries, and the user cannot buy used devices from these links, this is one, and what's even worse, I wrote about this, it is impossible to buy even new devices from these links in Dubai, Turkey and other countries, you need to order from China. That is, there is no support from the seller for old devices! For example, a user wants to buy GL-AR300M-EXT or Mudi V 1 (not to be confused with version V2), why force the user to buy new router models? If a huge number of previous models were sold that are supported and can work for another 5 years or more

Because that's how IT works. Older models will be end-of-sale and then end-of-life.

sorry, I don't understand you...

Are you saying that users who bought GL.inet devices a year or two ago should spend money again to buy the same device, only new?

And what can break in a router that is at home and has been used correctly for 5 or 10 years if there is no manufacturing defect?

I'll give you an example. For example, there is a Netgear WNDR3800 gigabit router that was released about 20 years ago and the user can now flash it [OpenWrt Wiki] NETGEAR WNDR3800 and use it in 2025!

The fact that the user cannot buy the previous model in the GL.iNet store is very bad!

You can flash plain OpenWrt on it and be as happy as you like.

But why should you be able to buy previous models? I don't get it. You can do, just buy them used. Sooner or later, the support will expire (so the device is not only end-of-sale but end-of-life) - but this is completely normal in IT.

You can't buy an iPhone 12 from Apple anymore.

If I remember right (@bruce) GL aims to provide 3 years of updates after end-of-sale?

Sorry, I disagree with you.

Why?

You may not know, but Apple paid a huge fine of millions of dollars for slowing down its old devices.

They did it specifically to make users buy new devices and told everyone that it was completely normal for IT, etc.

In 2017, Apple confirmed that it did slow down some iPhones, but said it only did so to "prolong the life" of the devices.

And what you are about to read is just the tip of the iceberg of Apple's terrible actions against users!

You ask me why I want to buy the previous device and not a new one, the answer is very simple:

Because the new device does not have the parts that the old ones have or it is technically impossible to replace the parts in the new device.

Please show Bruce my link to a 20 year old gigabit router that is still supported, it's not 3 years.

If Gl.iNet released a router like Lego, which for example had a removable and replaceable chip, modem and other parts, then this router could live a very long time. But it seems to me that this is unprofitable, the best option is to support the device for 1-2 years and then inform the user that the device is no longer supported and send it to your store.

A device will be supported as long as it is possible. From a technical, regulatory and business perspective.

You can install plain OpenWrt on your devices, if you plan to use them for a few years, even after there is no GL support anymore. But you can't force GL to support a 20 years old device

thank you for your answer.
I wrote about something else, not about the fact that you can install OpenWRT, but about the fact that the user cannot buy the device he wants through your store or elsewhere.

My post was intended for those who want to buy a used GL.iNet device and use it.

And here you should publish links where you can do this, and not force the user to buy a new device and say that this is how the IT business works.

Each country has its own local online platforms where you can buy used devices and they are more effective than Amazon or Ebay

I don't work for GL, so I can't help you with that.

Of course, you can buy used routers on the internet — but not old devices from GL directly. This is completely normal, since they are not in stock anymore and nobody will produce old devices if there is already a newer version.

So the main question is to users from other countries if they now platforms where you can buy and sell used stuff. So we should wait if someone knows something. I can only tell, that this isn't a way to buy supported devices. Of course.

I agree with you, it would be great if users would inform the community where to buy a used device. Models differ from each other in technical characteristics, even after they stopped being produced. There are models that have stopped being produced and they are better than new ones.
New does not mean better! 100%!
I don't know what needs to be done, for example, with MUDI GL-E750 How to change the battery? - #11 by bob2022 so that it stops working on its own, you can replace the battery and it will work for at least 5 years more...
