No recent changes to setup but now my gl-mt3000 now says "sign in needed to use this network" if I'm on an android device and captive portal wifi when I try to join the network via an iPhone.
So then I click on whatever device it is and it gives me the option to use the network "as is" without making any changes. And then it works but I'm also getting booted off at least once per session and I always have to go through this same scenario instead of it just reconnecting. I've deleted the network from a few of the devices and redone the credentials but that hasn't fixed anything. Any suggestions.
I changed the SSID and re logged in it does the same thing. I am using a wire guard VPN but that doesn't seem to impact the performance one way or the other it's still behaves the same way.
How do I remove the portal from my own personal wi-fi? I didn't set it up one day it was working and the next day it started doing this so don't know what I need to do to get it back currently on firmware 4.70 on both devices the home vpn server and the wifi travel router.
I am using this router as a repeater.
I have connected it to mutitple networks to test the issue in the last few weeks.
If I connect to a network without a captive portal I get the issue I described. As soon as I connect I get the "sign into network" prompt
If I connect the router to a captive portal network then it works correctly time #1. - - - I'm in the web admn panel I choose the network with the captive portal and tell it to repeat the network, fill in their password and get through the login. Then I immediately lose connection. When I manually reconnect my device to the repeated network that now has internet connection I then get the captive portal screen for my own network.
a bit strange, seems that you haven't manually installed third-party captive portal plugins (such as nodogsplash, etc.) on your GL router, and these prompts shouldn't pop up on your GL router.
Please try reset the firmware or upgrade to the latest firmware (without keep settings) to see.
Ok, I just tried a few more things.
Not sure if this clarifies more.
If I turn off VPN (wireguard client. The wireguard server is another beryl ax running at my house)
I do not get the signin prompt but now I cannot use my vpn. And it's very fast and works very well.
I read somewhere about turning off ip masquerading on the client side but when I do that I lose internet connections.
Could this be a vpn server/client setting causing the captive portal setting?
This behavior happens on firmware 4.68 and 4.70
Thanks.
I'm reluctant to reset router to base at this moment because I am traveling and need the router for several more days and can't mess with possibility of losing the vpn access during that time.
It is possible that the primary WiFi of the router repeated actually has a portal (or something similar that restricts router and other devices to connect to it), but it does not require verification, so the pop-up page is our router's Admin Panel.
As the router has established a WireGuard VPN tunnel, please confirm that the server end (including the primary (upper level of the server device on the network) does not have a portal.
If it does not affect the GL router network uses, it can be ignored for now.
SOLUTION: my issue was that I was on 4.70 on the Beryl AX that was my wireguard server. once I reverted it back to 4.68 all my issues resolved. I didn't realize I had updated that server device i spent all my time trouble shooting the client side. Then I pulled my device I carry in my work bag out and it had the same issues. It's a Flint AX1800 and it did exactly the same things. In fact, I couldn't even use the VPN on that device. it would lose all connections. so if you are having this issue check firmware of BOTH devices. 4.70 firmware is known to have issues and I had forgotten to check both devices
