Hey everyone,
I’ve been having a frustrating issue with my GL.iNet router, and I’m hoping someone can help me out. Every time I move between rooms in my apartment, the Wi-Fi signal weakens or even drops completely. It’s especially noticeable when I walk from the living room to the bedroom or kitchen. My place isn’t huge, and the walls aren’t particularly thick, so I’m a bit puzzled about why this keeps happening.
To give you a clearer picture, the router is currently placed in the living room, pretty much in the center of the apartment. I’ve tried different spots, even placing it higher on a shelf, but the problem persists. The connection is strong when I’m in the same room as the router, but as soon as I leave, it starts acting up. I’ve already rebooted and even factory reset the router, but no luck.
I’ve been thinking that maybe there’s some interference from other Wi-Fi networks in my building. I tried changing the channels in the router settings, but I’m not entirely sure how to pick the best one. Does anyone have advice on how to select the right channel? Also, would turning off the 2.4 GHz band and only using the 5 GHz band help? I’m a bit worried that it might make the range worse, though.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that the problem seems worse when multiple devices are connected, like my phone, laptop, and smart TV. Could it be that my router can’t handle all these devices at the same time? I’m not sure what the router’s device limit is, but I do have quite a few smart devices connected throughout the apartment. Has anyone else experienced this kind of issue with too many devices bogging down their Wi-Fi?
The reason I’m asking all of this is because I was recently reading about how people have solved similar problems by simply adjusting their router settings, and I felt inspired to see if that could be the solution for me too. I figured why not try the same before going for hardware upgrades or replacements?
During my search, I came across an interesting tool called the where am I tool online , which is designed to pinpoint your location using your device’s signal. While its primary purpose is geolocation, it made me think about how the placement of my router affects the signal strength in my apartment. Inspired by this concept, I’m starting to wonder if the Wi-Fi issue could be related to how the devices are positioned relative to the router and if tweaking the settings could solve the problem.
So, what do you guys think? Should I try adjusting the settings further, or is there something I haven’t thought of yet? Maybe I need to get a Wi-Fi extender, but I’d rather exhaust all other options first. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
