How do we configure a WiFi client connections to use for WiFi as WAN and use it with the fail-over?
Do we have to do this from the Luci GUI?
Do you want to configure a repeater so that the router can get external WiFi and fail over if there is a problem with the Ethernet/SIM data?
Just set it up on the router management page.
-
First connect to a known WiFi, click Apply to save,开启“Allow Switching to Other Saved Networks”
-
Adjust the network application order in the failover settings.例如Cellular--Repeater--Ethernet. Click Apply.
Our use-case is a mobile wireless router such as for use in an RV.
Sometimes it will be on WiFi, sometimes LTE, and sometimes StarLink (via the Ethernet WAN port).
Both the LAN and GL-X3000 WiFi AP should use the available uplink.
e.g. A configuration such as 2.4 GHz WiFi as WAN w/ 5 GHz WiFi AP is acceptable.
(I am familiar with multiWAN on a vanilla OpenWRT and will configure that next.)
If I change it to Repeater it ask me to remove the WAN Ethernet and the LTE doesn't seem to work so this doesn't seem like a solution for us.
I tried to use the Luci GUI to add a WiFi client but when I scan for networks it comes up empty.
I want to add a client WiFi (then use it for Internet egress, i.e. WiFi as WAN).
This is the logic of failover. It is not about using multiple different networks at the same time. That mode is called load balance.
To scan the network, you only need to scan on the router management page.
Maybe its just a misnomer calling it Repeater but I want to connect as a client not repeat the WiFi SSID.
When I attempt to enable Repeater it does not find any WiFi networks however I had one saved.
When I clicked on the saved network it went into an endless loop in the GUI trying to connect and I could not stop it (see attached gif)
The video did not capture the mouse, I clicked on abort multiple times and it did not abort.
I will factory reset and try again.
It appears to all be working!
Thanks for the hand-holding
It is stunningly easy to configure this once you know how.
After restarting or restoring factory settings, did the problem of repeater repeatedly reconnecting be solved?
Are you using failover mode or load balancing mode now?
So the problem is solved now?
After the factory reset the WiFi was functional again and the "Repeater" connected and worked.
I would strongly suggest changing the name of "Repeater". Maybe just call it WiFi.
There is also the bug that the Abort button did not work.
I would suggest not bouncing the GUI elements around; makes reading status and clicking on things difficult. (e.g. During reconnect it should stay in the GUI active state not bounce to disabled at the bottom.)
WiFi as WAN is now configured so you can close this ticket.
