Wifi drops on Beryl 7

I am helping a friend set up his VPN from the UK to the US. We are running into some issues with the Beryl 7 WiFi is not stable. He is using it in router mode and is hard-wired to his upstream router. So the known issue of repeater mode is not part of this config.

At least once a day, the SSIDs will either disappear or stop allowing connections. When this happens, he also has issues with the LAN port not always allowing connections. Clients seem to bounce between 5ghz and 2.4ghz in an almost flapping occurrence just before the SSID drops clients. They are currently testing with a wired client to see if it improves, but it has only been a few hours.

A power cycle will usually fix it.

No AdGuard, DPI, or anything else. Tailscale is installed; custom exit-node is not configured.
FW version = 4.9.0 (GL: 4.9.0 release1 build 1046 (2026-07-02 20:55:10) on OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT)
MLO = Off
WPA/WPA2 - On (WPA3 is not enabled)
Channels are fixed, not automatically selected
Non-DFS channels are being used

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot the drops? He has 3x Beryl 7, 1 in UK, 2 in the US. Due to the instability on at least 2 of them (3rd one was just installed yesterday), we are unable to proceed with setting things up. If an older firmware will fix things, stability first, then VPN setup.

Hi,

Thank you for providing the detailed setup information.

To help us determine whether the issue is limited to Wi-Fi or the router itself is restarting or becoming unresponsive, could you please check the following when it happens again?

  1. Keep a wired client continuously pinging the Beryl 7’s LAN gateway. When the Wi-Fi issue occurs, please note whether the Ping also stops, whether the Ethernet link shows as disconnected, and whether the wired client can still access the Admin Panel.
  2. Could you please describe the exact Wi-Fi behavior during the failure.
Do both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs disappear completely and remain unavailable for a long time, or are the SSIDs still visible but clients cannot connect?
  3. When the issue occurs, could you please check whether the system uptime has restarted, then export the logs from SYSTEM → Log and send the exported logs to us via private message.

I am not close to any of the locations. My info is based on reports from specific users at each site. I will see if I can get this info.

Hi,

Thank you for the clarification.

Whenever the information is available, please feel free to send us the test results and logs via private message, and we will continue investigating the issue.

Thank you for your support and understanding.
