I've read through the mega thread about MT6000 (Flint 2) on this forum, and the theme running through the thread was: Brilliant hardware, but suffers random WIFI disconnects or other WIFI issues.. I recently RTM'd a MT6000 myself for exactly the same reason, on several occasions the WFI signal would just disappear.. I though perhaps it was a hardware issue so returning it for a refund was the easiest option for me atm.
Anyway, towards the end of the mega thread things looked better (with the release of the op24 firmware) around WIFI issues.. But then the thread was unfortunately closed..
So, can you please let me know if the most recent firmware versions have resolved the WIFI issues so many people struggled with? Or am I better off getting a different router?
(please also include the OpenWRT versions when answering the question, I dont mind switching to OpenWRT if it runs better.. Im particularly interested in the build Pesa1234 is working on)
No WiFi issues here for a year. Iām using vanilla OpenWrt master/24.10 snapshots and pesa1234's custom build. I also have 2 other units that work fine.
the only issue you might still have with this router is that usb ports can be interference sources on 2.4ghz wifi.
^ this means only when the port is actually powered and has something connecting to it, you can try using a longer cable which is special made for less interference, and force usb 2.0 mode, but im not sure if that removes all interference i haven't tested it.
To be honest my suspicioun is that likely the innerside of the port needed shielding, its a common thing in alot of routers though.
Maybe it just works fine , but there are several cases about usb interfering.
In my situation it was with these small laptop usb sticks, in a appartment of 20 meters you usually won't expect much, but once i needed kitchen appliance which required internet then i noticed the problem.
My kitchen is the farest area open to my living room, i figured after 8 meter my wifi degraded really fast to not wanting to connect, now i can walk 4 levels down of my appartment and even sit in a car outside and still see 2.4ghz wifi
