Will this AP setup work?

Guys, I am planning to get a second MT3000, want to ask if it would be possible to use the second one as access point that is connected by ethernet, then from the second ethernet port to extend it to another switch.

So main router (mt3000) > ethernet connected to LAN 1 on the second mt3000 which will act as an AP > from that AP occupy the remaining LAN 2 port with an ethernet cable that goes into another room where there is a switch for the devices in that room.

Occasionally (when I am away from home for a long time), I would plug out the second mt3000 (the one that I would be using as an AP), and take it with me on the road, while in it's place just connecting a female to female connector (coupler) that connects the missing link between.

This setup works for me because I don't have that big of a home, and will fix the unreachable spots in my house while I am at home, while also the option to take the second router with me, convert it to a router when I am on the road.

Does this make sense? Also when converting between AP and a router, are the settings saved from the router mode (I believe the AP mode has no settings to be saved as it translates what the main router is bringing).

On the main router I have a stock openwrt with multiple VLANs. Would this work without much fuss?

You might have to figure out how the connections in the MT3000 are made, as I did for the SFT1200 (Internet divided by 3 by GL-INET - #17 by bpwl1 )

Independent from router or AP mode, the ethernet LAN ports there are connected by a switch. In AP mode the LAN and WAN interface are connected by a bridge. The "repeater" is then also setting the WLAN on the bridge when "extender mode", or "AP" mode is used.

Sometimes it is more convenient to use "router mode" to have access to the setup menus, but only use the LAN and WLAN connections, avoiding the router/firewall/NAT function.

VLAN will be passed unaltered if the switch is in dump-switch mode, however GL.inet uses VLANs to separate WAN and LAN, so it is not in dump switch mode. Can be seen (and maybe it can altered to dump mode or other VLANs added) with LUCI and SSH.
