Good morning, is the Flint 2 still the best 2.5-port router in terms of wireless range today?
As of early 2026, the GL.iNet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000) remains a powerhouse for wireless range among Wi-Fi 6 routers, though it is no longer the undisputed "best" as Wi-Fi 7 models have gained ground. Its massive range is driven by 8 high-power FEMs (Front-End Modules), which allow it to outperform even newer Wi-Fi 7 budget competitors like the TP-Link Archer BE3600 in raw signal penetration through walls. However, if your budget allows for high-end Wi-Fi 7 hardware, routers like the Netgear Nighthawk RS700S or Asus RT-BE88U now offer superior coverage and higher 5GHz/6GHz throughput across large distances. The Flint 2 still holds the crown for best value in the 2.5GbE category, especially for power users who want extensive range combined with the flexibility of OpenWrt and high-speed VPN performance.
Just to give a non AI response here from hands on experience with the Netgear device mentioned. The Netgear Nighthawk RS700S is super expensive (Partly because it has 10G ports) and for that money the firmware is really limited and horrible. It also got slated recently for being one of the devices using ‘fake’ Wifi7 branding by rings.com.
If someone was specifically looking for Wifi 7 (Which is only really worth it if your clients support MLO) the Flint 3 is a better Wifi7 choice for someone looking at the firmware flexibility and options included with the Flint 2 but with Wifi7?
To the OP if you don’t need/want Wifi 7 right now most here would likely say the Flint 2 is a very solid choice and some prefer it over the Flint 3 for its more mature and stable firmware.
