I have an x750v2 with physical eSIM. Although 4G is working fine with all the eSIM providers I have tried so far, the beta firmware required to make esim work still has some obvious bugs (f.i. sms not opening).
It is also getting rather old by now.
When is the final firmware including eSIM support scheduled to be released?
Hello @basz the standard firmware of the X750v2 does not have enough space to install the eSIM program. In order to add the eSIM function, it has to remove some function and delete some packages including the SMS tools.
Thanks for your quick reply! I have (and am running) the firmware you mentioned and have read the release notes in full, so i understand there are things missing in this firmware that is clearly marked as a beta and components needed to be dropped in favor of storage space.
What i am asking though is when this firmware will leave beta phase. This seems to me like something to be expected, as this model is advertised as eSIM compatible on it’s product page.
If the eSIM functionality is never going to be part of a stable firmware release for this model (and never receive updates), the proposition and the device’s value (in combination with the separately sold sim-card) are very different from what is advertised and people need to know that so they can make the right decision.
Looking forward; would it be possible to install a standard firmware, add external MicroSD storage, enable overlay on the MicroSD and then install the needed eSIM manager? I was not able to find the package the first time I booted up the router on the default firmware?
We will consider it. Currently, if you need esim and SMS functions, you can achieve it by expanding the storage via overlay. I can send you the required package if needed.
@Cathy Yes, please do send it. I would like to go the route as I described, going from standard firmware to esim with the use of expanded storage. I have the sd-card already in place and am able to enable it as overlay. My goal is to end up with a recent and complete firmware with esim. For me personally, it would be doable if esim would require the use of an additional sd-card, costing only a few bucks.
If you could share the required esim package(s) that would be amazing. I’m happy to try it out and report back.
Sorry I mean that additional functions (e.g., SMS) can be expanded based on the eSIM firmware. Below are SMS-related plugins. To add the SMS function, first expand the memory space via overlay method, then install plugins. ipk_for_x750.zip (151.8 KB)
As for adding the eSIM function through plugin packages, it's currently not supported and we need assess this requirement.
