Hi guys,
I have a GL-S1300 router on which I'd like to run Zerotier. I've tried using OpenWRT 22.03.5 (latest version which supports this HW) but everytime I reboot I lose all my customisations - I suspect they're being saved to RAM.
Any suggestions as to the best way to install Zerotier ?
Regards Tim
As a follow up I tried to reflash the unit to the stock GL inet firmware (image was 32MB). It seemed to complete ok but on reboot it was still on the original Openwrt FW. Seems that any changes are being stored in RAM and vanish on boot up.
Of course I could be mistaken but I figure I need a fresh clean install of the original FW before trying to add ZeroTier.
Question - is there another / better way besides UBOOT as that doesn't seem to be working ?
Thanks Tim
I don't use ZeroTeir but would first ask: how are you applying your customization? Is it direct commands/script based? If so you could just drop them into /etc/rc.local so they run at boot. Don't forget to add that file to /etc/sysupgrade.conf or you'll lose them if you upgrade the firmware. That's the quick & dirty method.
I follow the more traditional UNIX approach. I put all my shell scripts in /root/.bin & update the $PATH to point to it. See below for specifics. That path/a script within can the be called anywhere inc. rc.local. Don't forget to add /root to /etc/sysupgrade.conf for the same reason above.
Hi,
I've been using the GUI to set specific fixed IP, locale etc so no scripts involved.
However the bigger and probably related issue is how to flash the FW back to pure GL as that doesn't stick either because after reboot I'm always back in the OpenWRT.
Thanks for all the additional info, I'll study it and report back with any progress.
Regards Tim
Please follow the tutorial to flash the GL firmware in uboot:
If no luck, please screenshot the uboot UI.
Hi Bruce
thanks for the reply, here's a little bit more background info.
I had been using the stable release at 32MB and after I'd done the uboot process I would loose the GUI completely or it would get stuck on the up load page.
The passwords would still be the same
Background, I have four GL-inet S1300 routers which were set up as a mesh system and they worked well.
I no longer need them as a mesh system and decided to repurpose one of them as a regular router ideally with provision for a 4G ZTE USB dongle.
So I tried to re-flash back to stock openwrt using uboot but every time it wouldn’t stick reverting back to the original mesh - including the original passwords etc.
Likewise using the GL-inet image at 32MB.
I've just tried the 72MB beta image you reference above and while it appears to upload and reboot etc. It gets an IP address of 192.168.1.160 (same as when it was a mesh device) but no GUI - ie exactly the same result as before.
Is there a way to truly restore back to factory conditions including passwords etc ? Maybe I need to use TFTP or similar as clearly uboot isn’t working for me.
Thanks Tim
Saw your background, you did not need to uboot to flash firmware, just restore the factory settings by long pressing the reset button and then brand-new setup.
