15% packet loss from MT300N after fresh reset!?

Hello,

as mentioned in another thread already. My GLinet router makes my internet almost unusable.
Slow speeds and ping times

I hope these ping times are not normal. Because then i will definitely run far away from GLient products. :joy:
I know that i get sometimes for maybe 30 seconds pings of 3ms to the router. So i know it is possible. But how? Does everybody has these numbers or is it just me?

Thatā€™s how it looks after a fresh factory reset with only one device connected:

And sometimes it looks like this:

Surfing is no fun at allā€¦
On the WAN side i use a external USB Wifi: TL-WN722N. But that isnā€™t installed after a fresh factory reset. So i donā€™t think it is the reason.

What is the reason for these time outs? Is my air not compatible with wifi? :joy:

I already spend so much time with this routerā€¦ i am not sure if itā€™s worth more :frowning:
Let me know if i can post or do anything more to help to find the problem.

Here is the syslog:

How many devices are connecting to your router now?

I see you are using repeater? What if you just use cable?

Seems you also installed travelmate. What if you use a stock firmware without any extra things.

Also can you get the network status by using ā€œifconfigā€?

As mentioned in the first post. This how it looked after a fresh factory reset without any extra things and only one single device is connected. The average ping is between 50 and 100ms.

Then all the problems are gone. Ping: <1ms and high speed internet.

After factory reset (and setting for repeater):

Everything is changing constantly and itā€™s hard to reproduce. Sometimes i get average ping rates of 25ms (In rare occasions) to the MT300. Sometimes 300msā€¦ and sometimes 50msā€¦ (measured over an 1 minute time frame)
Sometimes i get speeds of only 2Mbps and sometimes 18Mbps. But always have a RSSI of >60dB.

After many hours of testing i found out that the GLinet router does not ā€œlikeā€ my internal wifi card from my miniPC. If i ping my Wifi-Modem from my miniPC. I get ping times of constant 3ms. If i ping the GLinet router. I get numbers all over the place from 1ms to 150ms. (Both these test where made with only one single device connected)

When i add a external USB wifi dongle to my miniPC. Then i also get constant 1ms to the Glinet IF no other devices are connected.

Some results in different scenarios. Pinging from mini PC (USB wifi dongle) to Glinet router:

Only the miniPC is connected ( with new USB wifi dongle) to Glinet router without any traffic or load:
One device no traffic

After a second device (My Android phone) is connected it gets worse immediately (still no traffic):
Second deviced no traffic

Now i open a website on my android device:
open website on second device

In the syslog i only see DHCP requests and nothing suspicious. The average load of the router is around 4.

Do you know how much fun it is to open websites with a ping time of 1 second? Zero fun. I donā€™t know what else to do. What can i test more?

In contrast. When i connect my PC with the wifi-modem directly (without the MT300 in between). The ping times basically donā€™t go up. Even with two devices connected. And thatā€™s how it should look like. Why this doesnā€™t work with my MT300?:

Might be useful to draw a picture of your network setup and where MT-300N fits in.

Itā€™s kind of hard to follow what might be the problem

The above tests where done with this setup. All wireless connections.

Windows PC = miniPC

Not sure what is wrong but what if you do not use repeater, only use cable from the mini router to your main router?

Did you ever set up mac clone?

After some more testingā€¦This might solve the problem:
I tried four different 2A power supplies so i thought thatā€™s not the reason. BUT after i tried one more. Suddenly i donā€™t have problems any more. My connection is much more stable in every way.
After i knew it might be the powersupply. I solderd a 1000uF capacitor to the output of the old one which is a 12V to 5V converter (The repeater gets power from a solar system). And yeahaa. Live feels better with stable internet  (I am a hobbyist. So if that capacitor is a bad idea. Let me know)
Change of power supply/ Capacitor seemed to have fixed it. For now

The final setup (which was not the test setup earlier) runs now since three days without big problems: The GL-MT300N in combination with a USB WiFi (TL-WN722N) and a helical-dish antenna repeats the wifi to my house from an access point 1km away. I get an average signal of -61 dBm. (Only a small bush in between)

These are my ping-times now in my final setup (last 6 hours). Ping tests are running from a Raspberry Zero W which connects to the GL-MT300N via wifi:

I am happy with it. Big improvement to how it was before. The spikes appear when people use the internet. But itā€™s not really an issue.
Will keep observing but i hope the power supply was the issue.

Using a cable between mini router and main router. Then I get super fast speeds and the ping between the router and the device is around 10ms without any big hiccups (I still believe it should be 3ms or less). But i am happy with 10.
Never set up mac clone.

Seems it was just coincidence that it worked for while with the new power supply.
Now i am back to unusable high ping times since two days.

And again. These ping times i get after a fresh factory reset. No VPNā€¦ no USB wifiā€¦ just a fresh factory reset:

The hours i spent trying to get this this Glinet router to work are countless and devastatingā€¦ weeksā€¦ I am done with that and frustrated.

For testing i bought a cheap 10USD extender from Tenda. And here we go. Works almost flawless. I wonā€™t have VPN or routing with it. But at least i have internet and low ping rates and highb speeds!! The GL-MT300N failed to give me that.

I donā€™t know why it does not work for me. I love the idea of these Glinet devices. But i guess it doesnā€™t work for everyone.
