Any plans to upgrade the Comet RM1 linux kernel and buildroot versions?

Hello,

I have watched a lot of YouTube videos on your KVM devices and have decided to choose between the Comet RM1 and the RM1PE.

From this topic, the buildroot and linux kernel version for the KVM were made available on GitHub which was great to see. However, I noticed that the Comet RM1 is on the end-of-life 4.19 linux kernel built using buildroot-2018. The RM1PE and the Comet Pro are on linux kernel 6.1 built with buildroot-2024.

So my question is, are there are any plans to support or release an upgrade for the Comet RM1 to use a more up to date kernel and buildroot version? Thank you.

Jason

IMO, there are hardware upgrades to the RM10 and the RM1PE. Unless the price is a huge concern I would suggest that the RM10 is probably the best deal when it comes to potential future upgrades. But for me the RM10 is a better solution for the HDMI passthrough which is important to me.

Nope, we can’t upgrade the kernel or buildroot without support from the chip manufacturer.

Thank you for your response, that clarifies things.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I think I will save up and go for the RM10. For future proofing, as you said suggested, plus the WiFi option and the HDMI passthrough might come in handy in my setup.
