AR300M (NOR) - repeater auto-reconnect

I have an AR300M router plugged in to two PCs, to create a local network for repeating my phone’s wifi hotspot. When I walk out of range with the phone and back in to range, I usually have to log in to the router, and click through the “change network” option to select the phone’s hotspot in order to reconnect. Sometimes I even have to disable and re-enable the phone’s hotspot for this to work. The router will have a message under the repeater dialogue saying that re-connecting failed, and that it will retry the connection later, but it doesn’t seem to retry often.

Is there a way to increase the frequency of retries?

Hi,

At present, the Repeater function waits 30 seconds after a connection failure before attempting to reconnect. This retry interval is fixed and cannot be adjusted.

Please also note that, in some cases, the upstream access point may temporarily refuse a client that was recently disconnected. This behavior is controlled by the 802.11w Comeback Timer, which enforces a short waiting period before reconnection is allowed.

And what causes it to go to “Repeater (STA) is disabled.” state, with a connect button?

What causes it to display the error that it failed to reconnect?

There are a number of areas where the reconnects are failing or attempts are being disabled. I don’t understand why these are functions of your devices.

This state only occurs if the Disable or Abort button is clicked manually. In that case, the repeater stops the reconnection process and returns to its initial state, showing the Connect button.

This message appears when the AR300M is unable to scan for or connect to the specified Wi-Fi network. Even when this error is shown, the router will continue attempting to reconnect automatically every 30 seconds.

To help narrow this down, please confirm the following:

  1. Your mobile hotspot remains enabled after you return. Some phones automatically disable the hotspot after a period with no connected devices.
  2. The hotspot is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz, as the AR300M only supports this band.
    • On Android, this may require manually selecting the band.
    • On iPhone, please enable Maximum Compatibility.
