This will be quite challenging and could potentially trigger some unforeseen technical issues. While we will consider adding support for this in the future, it will likely take a significant amount of time.

Hopefully this is obvious, clients connected via a node should appear bridged such that MAC addresses remain unchanged and VPN polices based on MAC addresses will continue to function over both Ethernet and wireless backhaul and indeed remote via AstroWeb?

I am not in a position to test anything at the moment as I would be looking to use a Flint 2 and Beryl as that’s what I have.

With WIFI backhaul, how much control is given to which band is used for backhaul, and is that band also ‘repeated’ on the node or dedicated to the backhaul?

I can’t imagine I would be comfortable using an Astro Node with its cloud service dependency, and that’s fine for me as I am really only interested in home use anyway so Mesh Node is fine for me. But I’m still curious, if my home is NOT behind CGNAT (it isn’t at the moment), but only the Astro Node is behind CGNAT (likely in many scenarios I would think) then would I need an account? I understand that if both ends are CGNAT then some glue would be required to manage the connection similar to Tailscale, but with Tailscale it is still possible to for a peer to peer connection if one side is free from CGNAT. What’s the situation with Astro Web?

My other concern will be resource usage as I’m already experiencing instability with 4.9 on the Flint 2, mainly with AdGuard (might need to offload it to another box but not too happy about that idea).

I posted above about the content filtering and am wondering if there is any comment on that.

After upgrading ADGH yesterday I have not had any more OOM but I see there is no activity shown on the data stats page:-

Yes, I too am frustrated with ADGH and OOM. I believe the Flint 4 will be much better.

I also block Samsung - that is phoning home at an incredible rate.

And I am currently blocking 84% of useless DNS and ads (in the past 24 hours) and I can still use the internet and the Samsung TV the way I want:-

An account is not mandatory; you can use the Astro Node even without binding one. The Astro Node prioritizes P2P mode, and it will only fall back to cloud relay if the P2P hole punching fails. Even in that scenario, no account is required—the cloud ensures data privacy and security based on the device's unique identity.

Please ssh login this router and run these:

netifyd -s
ps | grep monitor_traffic

Please try switching your time zone to see if the problem is resolved.

You can't call it privacy if a feature requires an account. Maybe you won't understand if you're from a country like China. Having an account means data can then make me identifiable. I hope GL.iNet will make as many features available without an account as possible.

Was that for me? I tried it anyway and no matter what time zone I select it always goes back to my (correct) default region.

Will be the Brume 3 in Future usable as Astro mesh Master? I want to use a Brume as Router in my Little Electric cabinet which contains the fiber optic wall Outlet, the ont and a Ethernet Switch to my rooms.

In the rooms i want Connect the mesh nodes.

This is a very good idea.

As this is based on EasyMesh, does that mean other vendors EasyMesh nodes will work e.g. TP Link Extenders? I know they won’t work with AstroWeb, I’m talking just about a local mesh node.

Given I have a spare Beryl kicking around I’ll be trying that when the time comes so no intention on using a 3rd party node myself.

A bit of a crystal ball question, I see Flint 2 and Beryl AX are expected in late August as beta, is there any feeling for when this will be incorporated into a stable release?

On a slight tangent I have limited use for a travel router and my travel is generally supper light so a Beryl AX is a large additional lump for me to carry and difficult to justify. My last trip was 3 months living out of a 55L backpack so space was a premium. The Beryl would also have be overkill for my travel needs, so its good to see the Mango 2 coming that will likely support everything I would need in a travel router in a more portable package. Its good that it is getting the mesh support! I can see the use case for digital nomads.

Did you happen to manually install the netifyd application yourself? Your error log shows version 4.4.7, whereas the version we are currently using is actually 5.2.8.

Sorry but Remote Astro Node only, not Local Mesh Node for Mango 2.

We hope this will still be a very useful feature: sharing the exact same SSID as your home network; quickly and seamlessly connect back home.

Spot on, looks like that’s indeed the culprit! This is the open-source version of netifyd, and it seems we have a bug in the versioning format and detection logic. We'll get this patched up!

I hate to say it, but your best bet is probably just to factory reset this router.

I do like the ASTROMESH. But that is what we have to up with put, and accept, when loading up beta firmware. :laughing:

@rain , if I can chime into this answer with my question

I purchased the Brume3 to offload the heavy RAM/CPU tasks like DPI and ADHG off one of my 3*Flint3. If I put the astromesh on the Flint3’s, instead of being APs, can the Brume3 still keeps doing (some of) the heavy lifting of the DPI+ADHG? Or it’s a no-go until it gets added to the astromesh in Q4? What would my setup look like if I can still use the Brume3 between now and Q4?

What’s your current network topology look like? From what I gather, whether you run AstroMesh on the Flint3 or Brume3, the applications you mentioned should work fine either way. It’s really just a matter of choosing which device you want to use as your exit node.
