ATX Board doesn't work

I am using a Comet PoE and can not get the ATX Board to work

I have tried almost all combinations of connecting the ATX Board and none of them allow to to pass the Power or Restart commands. I have tried interface 4 and 5, swapping the polarity of the power pins (ATX Board to motherboard), only plugging in the power pins, removing the case front panel connection and none of them make the power options work. When connected the pass through from the case does work and so do the power LEDs. I saw in another threat that it might be the usb cable but I swapped it with the one for mouse and keyboard that did work and still nothing. I am using a z690 pg riptide motherboard.

Looking at that diagram of my panel header layout I tried 3-4, 4-3, 3-8, 8-3 and none worked.

Thanks

txpower /dev/ttyACM0 power_state

on

This indicates that the RM1PE and ATX connections are normal, and the problem lies in the connection between the ATX and the computer.

  1. Try re-plugging all the DuPont cables to avoid the problem of poor contact.

2. Try to execute atxpower /dev/ttyACM0 click_power_short, and observe whether the controlled computer turns on/off. If not, try the following steps.

3. Try reversing the polarity of POWER SW, Try step 2 again.(The pins connect to the motherboard )

If the ATX still doesn't work, try using a multimeter to measure the connectivity between the ATX and the computer.

I've reviewed your logs and descriptions. Unless you can test it on another computer to confirm whether the ATX unit itself is faulty, I don't have other solutions to offer.

When I run atxpower /dev/ttyACM0 click_power_short it returns success but nothing happens.

After swapping the POWER SW on the motherboard and running the same command I get success but nothing happens.

I have also tried it on my desktop and the passthrough works but sending a power command does not.

What if you switch the +- leds does this atx controller have that?

since it is so small often the pin is not correct placed next meaning you may have a working + or -, but the other was connected to the third pin often hd light.

often the sw power led i don't think that causes an issue, but these +- ones really can, even when building pcs I often place the pin on the third which is barely to see.

Always make sure if the button works, it can also turn it off, if it can't be turned off you may have the wrong power from hd status.

Can you send a picture of your ATX wiring connection?

I assume you don’t need to see the ATX board side as it only goes in one way. I have tried both top and bottom connectors on the ATX board as well.

The empty pin is in the bottom left in the photo.

Could you try disconnecting the Comet PoE and the computer’s keyboard/mouse cables, then test whether the ATX function works properly with the “POWER SW” text facing outward and inward, respectively?

Just tried and it still doesn’t work. Both Power Short and Long press nor Restart work. I even swapped the USB cable that was used for keyboard and mouse with the ATX boards cable. I had not mentioned it before but the two led lights are lit on the board (blue and green). Should I try the push buttons on the board?

The indicator lights being on mean that the controlled computer is currently powered on. You can try checking whether the buttons on the computer case work normally.

I unplugged everything and plugged it all back in like this.

The case buttons work to power on/off and reset.

The ATX Reset option also now works from the Comet interface as well. But neither power option works for turning the machine on/off.

That’s a very clear description. Could you try the cable connection method shown on the right?

The fact that the reset function is now working indicates that the polarity of the reset cable connection is correct.

When switching the POWER SW around it still doesn’t work with the Comet interface but the physical power switch still works.

Could you please send a picture of the cable connections between the ATX board and the computer?

sorry I had to send as two because of the new user one image rule.

When the computer is powered on, what happens when you execute “Power (Long Press)”?

It says “Operation successful!” but nothing happens, machine stays on. If I go long press the power button myself the machine shuts off after 3-4 seconds of holding.

The “Restart” function is still working correctly, right?
