I just unpacked my Beryl 7, set in repeater mode (connected to my normal wifi as a repeater, over wifi). I got almost full speeds when running, on the stock firmware 4.8.5. The UI prompted me to update to v 4.8.7, which I did. Immediately I could only get download speeds of 0.5mbps. Upload speeds were strangely not as affected, but went down to 50% from before.
Tried everything to see why it now didn’t run, including restarting the Beryl unit and forgetting the wifi and setting it up anew.
Nothing worked, so I decided to flash back to 4.8.5, and immediately the unit recovered back to full speed.
I’d like to raise awareness for this since I do intend on updating this unit someday, just not to 4.8.7, so I hope you can find what is wrong or I will eventually have to return the unit.

About 150mbit both directions. Firmware 4.8.5 gets close enough to this (Usually somewhere 120-130mbit both directions, but sometimes reaching 150). Firmware 4.8.7 only reached 0.5 mbit downstream and ~80mbit upstream. The upstream wifi network is a mixed 2.4G/5G network from a Unifi U6 Lite. There are no special filters/QoS or similar in place further up in the network.
How did you test the network speed when it was abnormal on firmware 4.8.7?
I tested using fast.com and other web-based services for speed testing, for all the reported results here. The results were consistent no matter the service. Laptop and router placements were the same between tests. As you can imagine, even browsing a normal website reveals that something is struggling when downstream is 0.5mbit.

From my connected laptop, I only have the 2.4G and 5G networks enabled and only connected via wireless. My laptop was connected to the 5G network.

I only tried wireless, since that will be my use-case.

No, this was only following the guide/wizard to setting it up as repeater. After that I changed the emitted SSID names, and then I did the speed test, followed by firmware upgrade and disappointment.
Are there any differences in router settings between firmware 4.8.5 and 4.8.7?
Not that I have made. When upgrading firmware I ticked the box to keep settings. When downgrading back to 4.8.5 I again ticked the box to keep settings.

Yes.
For your other questions I didn’t test and sadly need to run it without possibility of trying the update again.
What commands would you like to see run? I believe I’ve already given you test environment details, but please specify what you would want to see and I’ll do my best to provide it.
It's unclear whether the repeater is the only issue.
Wired speed test data for comparison would be more helpful.
For example:
WAN Ethernet + LAN
WAN repeater + LAN
If we don't have the means to test the wired connection, we'd like to know if there are any differences in the repeater connection status across different firmware versions.
For example, wifi band, bandwidth, channel, etc.
If possible, we would like to see the return result of the following command when speed tests show abnormal and normal:
