Cant update to 4.9

Hi,

cant update from the latest snapshot 4.8.5 to the newest beta 4.9 on my flint 3 be93000.

Is this a bug or to be expected?

How did you update? I used the GUI from Gl.inet and had no problems.
Remember: You have to update from scratch, and disable keep configuration in settings.

never updated without keeping my settings and i never had problems with this

Other older firmware versions work?

If other people don't complain maybe something is up with the partition layout you should contact support because this isn't easily fixed.

I have had this once on a gl router, and support helped me :+1:

No. i cant upgrade and im also not able to downgrade.

sound like a factory partition misalignment, similar as mine

it also keeps the settings too? ( I believe it did that too, it just rebooted )

Yeah it keeps the settings but this is what i want. Too many configurations (wireguard, etc).

I understand, but I ment explicitly that it keeps data even when you choose to not keep settings (you can make a backup via advanced settings in luci).

^ in case of partition misalignment you really want this backup, because the process of fixing it requires a uart serial connection either by gl or maybe if you are handy you can do it with support remotely via them, it will wipe the full flash and data in the restore process.

before i let someone connect to my router or pc i will send back the flint 3.

Hi

Please try using Uboot to reflash the firmware according to the following tutorial:

is it bricked if router is still working but the only thing is he cant be flashed anymore?

If the router is still working, then it is not bricked.

The main issue at the moment is that you’re unable to upgrade the firmware through the Admin Panel.
And the U-Boot is an alternative method for flashing firmware, so we recommend following the tutorial to try that approach.

You can also try downgrading to the stable v4.8 version first follow the steps below, and then upgrading to v4.9:

Please note that we do not recommend using backup files across different firmware versions, especially when it comes to minor version updates.

*major version updates :stuck_out_tongue:

Tried it but im getting an error with sysupgrade and the stable 4.8.4:

In that case, then the only option at the moment may be to flash the firmware via U-Boot.
If you’d like to keep your configuration, you can try creating a backup through Luci, but please note that it may not always work as expected.

I had the same problem; after resetting the router to factory settings, I was able to carry out the upgrade.

I was starting from the stable 4.8.4 version
