Client (NAS) connected to GL-AR300M-16-EXT in extender mode not visible in main router device list

Hi,

I want to use my GL-AR300M16-Ext in extender mode to allow non-Wifi enabled devices to the be visible on my home WiFi network. I am in the UK and the setup I have is my ISPs router (BT SmartHub) my main WiFi router. I also have a GL-AR300M16 set in Extender mode. This is connected to an ethernet switch using the LAN port on the GL-AR300M16. My NAS is then also connected to the switch using an ethernet cable.

I have assigned a static IP address to the NAS along with the subnet mask, default gateway etc to match my main router's WiFi network.

The problem I have is that when I look at the devices on the main router the NAS is not visible but the AR300M is but using the IP address I assigned to the NAS. If I browse to that IP address I am taken to the management page of the NAS not the AR300M.

How do I access the management page of the AR300M when it is in Extender mode?

I want to make sure that the firewall is switched off on the AR300M because the NAS is currently NOT accessible from other devices on the WiFi network. I can ping the IP address but I have no idea whether it is the AR300M replying or the NAS server.

What is the ip assigned by the superior to AR300M

Thanks for replying so quickly.
My main router (DHCP server) always displays the IP of the device connected to the LAN port of the AR300M so I cannot see if the device has had an IP assigned or not.
Since I first posted I have assigned a manual IP address to the NAS 192.168.1.60.
I also went into the LAN advanced settings on the AR300M and changed the Default DHCP server (for option 3) to the address of my main router 192.168.1.254. Then I switched to Extender mode. I hoped this would force the AR300M to get an IP address from the main router. After this I checked the devices list on the main router and the IP address against the AR300M (I checked the MAC address) is, you guessed it, 192.168.1.60 the static IP address assigned to the NAS.
Prior to this I had tried assigning the static IP address 192.168.1.30 to the AR300M and the static IP address 192.168.1.60 to the NAS. Still in the main router list of devices the AR300M was listed with the IP address of the NAS. At the stage I had not tried setting the Default DHCP Server setting in LAN/Advanced on the AR300M.

It is almost as if the AR300M only expects to have one device accessible through the LAN port so it just takes the IP address of the first device.

What is this cable for?
Provide a network to the switch?

An ethernet switch is not a cable. It is a device that allows you to split your ethernet network to add multiple devices. Mine is the Zyxel GS1100-16 unmanaged switch.

Before the recent change that means my main router has to be on a different floor in the house the cable that used to connect the main router to the switch is now connecting the AR300M to the switch. By doing this I had hoped to be able to access the devices connected to the switch.

This issue probably is related to the extender bug which we known, it does the NAT (probably) causing the clients connected to the AR300M only shows 1 MAC in the main router (so only 1 IP online), but all clients IP connected with the AR300M (with the switch) can be accessible in the LAN, try ping the others client IP to see.

My NAS has a static IP address 192.168.1.60, if I ping this I get "Request timed out" four times. Before changing the AR300M to Extender mode I assigned it a static IP address of 192.168.1.30. If I ping this address I get "Reply from 192.168.1.230: Destination host unreachable." four times.

Why is the reply from 192.168.1.230 and not from 192.168.1.30? (Actually I know why, that is the IP address of my laptop's WifI adapter).

For what it is worth, if i connect my laptop to one of the other connections on the Zyxel switch I can ping 192.168.1.60 successfully.

May I know what device for you do the ping? Is it in the LAN same as the NAS?

We difficult to understand since there is not topology image to know your network devices.

Hi Bruce,

Please close this issue. In the end I gave up and used a powerline connector to connect one floor to the other. I returned the GL-AR300M to amazon. Thank you for trying to help though.
