Encrypted DNS servers list question

In the DNS server settings section, after selecting Encrypted DNS you then get to choose a server(s) from the list.

There is no additional info about the servers, which exact server it is, and it is blocking anything like ads, trackers or malware etc.

Like with mullvad-doh - which Mullvad DoH is it using? Just the basic dns.mullvad.net I assume?

And with cloudflare is it just using 1.1.1.1?

And with nextdns what is it using? I assume it is just the basic NextDNS DNS with no custom blocking obviously.

Some info/details on the actual server used would be awesome and helpful.

If I wanted to use extended.dns.mullvad.net as an example would I just set that up using Manual DNS in the Mode drop down?

You would need to research what each DNS provider offers. For example, cloudflare 1.1.1.1 is a generic DNS however if you use 1.1.1.2 that would filter malware, 1.1.1.3 would filter malware and adult content. Nextdns uses rules that you can create within your account. All these blocks / filters can actually be achieved if you use adguard home and filters, you would get the same desired effect.

I have just realised you are asking what the default options refer too. I would guess it's the default, so cloudflare would be 1.1.1.1 etc however I will let a dev answer that. I personally use the adguard home application and then input the relevent DNS I require as I mentioned in the previous post.

Have you tried encryption AdguardDNS? Create new account for free but lowest limit queries per month. So I paid Adguard VPN and free Adguard DNS queries per month. I mean increased numbers queries.
Using router, outside network for mobile, etc.

Use Control D

Free, no sign up. No “PaY mE” crap.

If the product is free, you are the product then.

That’s why I prefer to filter everything locally using open source blocklists. And even managed to add primitive Adblock to x750

Go then, what is problem?

I would love your help with my questions when/if you have time

I can't help. Somebody from GL need to answer this question.

Thanks! I was wondering if I should tag someone and who to tag.

Can you help with this question maybe...

If I wanted to use custom DNS like extended.dns.mullvad.net or https://security.cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query as an example would I just set that up using Manual DNS in the Mode drop down in the GL UI DNS settings?

You should tag @yuxin.zou. This is really requested feature. If many people will ask it, they can consider implementing it

Thanks for responding!

So custom DNS is not supported yet??? :astonished: @yuxin.zou

I can't add something like extended.dns.mullvad.net or my custom NextDNS id in these boxes below? I can only add or select DNS like 1.1.1.1 and 9.9.9.9 etc?

I know it is a thing, but DNS names as DNS server? I don't get it ...

But if you know an IP, you can click in the field and just start to type it.
The selection in the drop down is just the pre defined if somebody has no idea what is any IP of any DNS.

So are you saying I can add something like a IPv4 or IPv6 address?

But I thought custom DNS was not supported yet?

Now - no. Only unencrypted one.

But you can vote for this feature:

But for now you can head to LuCi and install special plugin by this method

Sorry, my fault. I was not aware that the topic is 'encrypted DNS'.

You can set 'custom DNS'. Any IP you like. But it works only as long as this IP provides a DNS service that is supported.
And Encrypted DNS is not supported.

We will be pleased if you will vote for feature too
