eSIM Management Support for Routers Without Built-in Cellular (e.g., Slate 7 + M.2 Dev Board + RM520-GL)

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if there are any plans to add eSIM management support (such as downloading and managing eSIM profiles) for GL.iNet routers that do not have built-in cellular support, but are used in combination with external modules.

For example, I'm using the Slate 7 together with the M.2 Dev Board and a Quectel RM520-GL modem. While the hardware setup works well, currently there's no native eSIM management interface in the GL.iNet firmware for this configuration.

Hi,

There is currently no plan to support the esim function for non-cellular routers (default without cellular modules).

If you require to use eSIM, please consider purchasing X3000, X2000 and the etc. cellular routers.

I would like to chime in and second this request; it's technically possible to add the same application when M.2 Dev Board is connected, and I see no reason to lock it for cellular routers only.

I'm currently using the same setup as OP, and would love to see this added.

Hi,

Sorry, the PM team probably did not consider adapting the eSIM function in M.2 the Dev Board.

First, the eSIM function is depended on the router's firmware to develop and adapt, and M.2 Dev Board itself does not have system flash, it could not run firmware or program with any functions.

On the other hand, the eSIM function also requires the modem module firmware supported using eSIM card itself.
And GL have to do some adaptation in router firmware, development and debugging work in order to make the modem module to run perfectly with the eSIM card.

As the M.2 Dev Board can replace any modem module, most modems do not support to use eSIM without developing and adapting.
It requires a lot of R&D resources to adapt to more modem modules.

Thus currently, only the eSIM function is supported for the GL cellular routers. Sorry for the inconvenience.
