Hello, I am trying to find a way to watch TV through my Flint2 (in router mode) but the information I gathered here and there is not sufficient (I am not a real newbie but far from being a geek) so I hope you can help me
My French ISP is called “Orange” and the Flint2 is connected to their “Livebox 5” via Ethernet. I mention the company’s name because they say that their TV decoder requires direct access to their box (or to their repeater) and I succeeded in connecting the Flint2 to their repeater (its LEDs are OK and it is in the list of on-line clients).
In other words: Internet => Orange Livebox 5 => Flint2 => Orange Repeater =/= Orange TV decoder => TV set
I know the Flint2 briefly recognised the decoder because I identified its MAC address in the list of clients but it then stayed in the list of off-line clients. I enabled IGMP Snooping but if I am not mistaken the real problem comes from the double NAT: the Livebox 5 is 192.168.1.xxx (but I disabled its wifi) and of course the Flint 2 is 192.168.8.xxx
I imagine VLAN(s) might be a solution but I would need assistance. I did check Setting up VLAN on GLINet Flint 2 Router | Ryan Pope as well as VLAN Flint2 or even OneMarcFifty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCzi735wtk8 but I am out of my depth (and clearly I would be afraid of creating security breaches: LuCi is a frightening sight to behold for a non-specialist…)
Thank you very much for any insights (or any other solutions you might think of)
Usually TV service from operator requires specific config to make it work. For example my ISP requires not only VLAN config with specific ID but also specific subnet address (192.168.1.100/24 in my case), specific DNS and gateway, and IGMP snooping. First you have to obtain all required parameters from your modem, but I think that config would be almost impossible with flint 2 between orange modem and repeater… can you connect directly orange modem and repeater? Or physically connect wires from repeater to modem with a coupler? Flint 2 in access point mode?
Well, I cannot physically connect Livebox 5 to repeater, nor repeater to decoder (all three are too far apart).
As for swapping routeur mode for AP mode, that would amount to using no Flint2 at all (Livebox 5 is already a routeur, but without the power and versatibility of Flint2).
Maybe I should try and ask Orange ISP for their potential parameters to use on a routeur, but I am not too optimistic: 1) I browsed all their answers to this problem in their supporting forums and they never disclosed any 2) their general tone suggested they are not that friendly with people using other devices than theirs…
I do hope there will be a solution through “just” adequately setting up Flint2 via LuCi
Your flint 2 is wired to livebox? Another option is configuring livebox to full bridge mode, so livebox works only as ONT and passes all traffic to flint 2. It has many advantages but config is very complex, because you have to replicate vlan config for all services available (internet, IPTV and possibly telephone) and make pppoe validation. The advantage is that flint 2 controls connection and routing so it behaves as livebox router. It requires to obtain full access to livebox configuration to change settings and obtain all parameters to be passed to flint 2.
You can check at this page for info about some ISP config info:

Hi,
On the Orange PL forum (not FR, but it should be the same company), someone shared their experience using a GL.iNet device to replace the ISP router and configure IPTV. You may find it helpful:
https://nasz.orange.pl/t5/Modemy-i-routery/Konfiguracja-IPTV-na-OpenWRT-LuCI-z-dekoderem-4K-Multi/td-p/406158
Please note that their setup differs from yours—they use an ONT device + a GL.iNet router to replace the ISP’s all-in-one unit (Funbox 6, whereas in your case it’s a Livebox 5).
Here’s a more comprehensive guide:
Both approaches are quite complex and require configuration via LuCI or SSH using UCI commands.
Thank you for the links and for your insight.
As you must have seen in my reply to @ifalonso I think your suggestions are a little less frightening than his and I will definitely spend quite some time foraging in all three directions.
I will most probably come back with precise questions
Thank you for the link and for your insight.
I am just surprised because I thought the Livebox already worked only as ONT and passed all traffic to Flint2. The fact that you are saying the config is “very complex” is a bit scary (you will have noticed that will.qiu rates both his suggestions as only “quite complex,” so it’s a little less frightening – I would not go as far as finding it reassuring though)
In other words, I will spend quite some time foraging in all three directions and I will certainly come back with precise questions
