Fancy new Mudi 7

When will it be released? Which 5G module is used? RAM? Storage? Will Mudi V2 continue to be offered (and supported)?

Mudi 7:

5G NR
Tri-band Wi-Fi 7
Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS), eSIM
Traffic aggregation.
2.5G LAN/WAN Ethernet port
10Gbps USB-C interface with OTG support
TS-9 external antenna interface
Removable battery, up to 8 hours of runtime

I am particularly curious how they will implement traffic aggregation. Proper bonding or something else.

When will you guys release the specs for the Muldi 7? Will it use a MediaTek chipset?

There is also a teaser for the Beryl 7 too! The lack of specs is killing me!

This new Mudi looks awesome. I’m looking for something a little easier to travel with than my Spitz AX and this looks to be perfect.

Would be nice to know details like chipset, modem module, etc.

The name clearly shows it's a MediaTek SOC :person_facepalming:

Huh? I don't get it.

He is saying he has 100% faith in GL’s naming convention.

I was referring to what he posted about the Beryl 7 GL-MT36BE :backhand_index_pointing_down:

But anyway, you want to bet on that?

Psyched to hear more and try one of these, been traveling full time for years on a Slate AX and this should finally put most of what I need for my LAN kit in one USB-C device. :+1:

Agreed. It could be a very nice all-in-one solution. Let’s hope the price is realistic.

Thankfully, there is already a lot of competition in the 5G MiFi space - so the free market should do its job to moderate prices.

I am hoping for a much faster processor.

I am currently using the Mudi V2 on my travels. It is nice, but the openVPN speeds are just around 2-3 m/bits and wireguard around 10-15 m/bits. Although connection to wlan or 4/5G offers much faster speeds, the processor limits the available speeds using VPNs.

Current Mudi processor is something like 12 years old. Maybe older, I lost track. I wonder how they even get them anymore.

Mudi 7 battery life is claimed 8 hours (essentially the same as Mudi V2). I’m just guessing this means the new processor is indeed strong, and needs a lot of battery. 500Mbps WireGuard should be the absolute minimum if they intend for Mudi 7 to have 5+ years of relevance.

Regarding your WireGuard speeds on V2: 10-15Mbps WireGuard seems quite low. I usually see 30-35Mbps.

I don't understand what you're saying. It makes no sense to me.

So, I have finally decided on the Mudi v2 for the following reason:

  1. I wanted to be able to use it in Australia on the Telstra 4G network (ie it had to have the 4G bands; and
  2. I wanted to take it on our travels to the USA so it needed to support the 4G bands over there.

As I am not travelling overseas until Sept 2026 I was excited to see the Mudi 7 appear and hopeful that it will be available in March 2026.

Question: will the Mudi 7 be backward compatible with the 4G bands used by Australia AND the USA?

and, does amyone know if the 5G bands are the same?

TIA

I think yes.

What 5G band? 5G has many frequency bands, and each country/region is different.

I think it can be released before you travel overseas!

Hi @Bruce

Can you confirm which modem module(s) will be available initially on Mudi 7?

I hope you are staying with Quectel, with unlocked IMEI mutation via AT.

Nevermind

It's Quectel. The specific modem model will not be disclosed for the time being. Please wait for the official release.

Can you confirm that both the Multi 7 and Beryl 7 will be able to flash to OpenWRT if desired? Can you confirm that Mediatek chipsets are being used for both products? Please!

About specific CPU information, waiting for official news please
