Flashing stock OpenWRT image bricks the router? (GL-AR750)

I’m having some issues with shadowsocks with GL-inet’s firmware so I wanted to try installing the stock OpenWRT distribution. I flashed the router with the following file, as per the OpenWRT wiki: http://downloads.openwrt.org/releases/18.06.4/targets/ar71xx/generic/openwrt-18.06.4-ar71xx-generic-gl-ar750-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin

After waiting a few minutes, I try to connect to the router via ethernet cable but I cannot access either SSH or web interface. I tried multiple IPs including 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.8.1. I can however ping the router.

In the end, I had to follow the Debrick via Uboot instructions to revert back to the Gl-inet firmware.

Did anyone else try this? Did you manage to make it work?

I tried to flash the firmware you said, it can be successful, I can access the 192.168.1.1 management page, or ssh to the router.

When you use uboot to flash the firmware is to choose NOR flash,
