By waiting until a new firmware is released. 4.5.7 is nightly, bloody, unstable and for testing (!!) only.
But the unfortunate truth is that these snapshots are being released for the consumer (us) to test and feedback. If everyone is waiting for a final release, then who will do the testing? It seems that the product developers and official testers have not been doing a great job so far, have they?
Yes, it’s a dilemma. I’m just not sure whether it helps when amateurs get involved in testing. In my opinion, this creates far too much turbulence and the reporting of errors, which are normal or occur in a snapshot.
In my opinion, only people who know what this means and how to identify and report errors should test. Everyone else just has to be patient.
Testing does not mean “Installing and taking a look” - testing mostly means “Installing, trying, investigating, reporting”; it’s more or less a professional action which needs professional people.
Every game which is released (aka Early access) is tested by “amateurs” or as you normally call them end users, and even after a public beta test, there are still bugs which don’t show up instantly but only under complex scenarios.
Unfortunately most software companies rush their products or want to save money and simply rely on “crowdsourcing” to test their software.
On the other side there are also bug bounty programs, but most of them only security related.
I agree that debuging should be done by a professional. But sometimes a hint of a end user can help to find the problem.
No, we are talking about different things.
Testing here is nothing an end user can really do. Of course, you can report something like “my 160 MHz devices are still problematic” - but this information is less useful if you don’t include logs, configurations and device information. If you look through this thread, you will see that only a few people are aware of that.
The big difference between a game and the testing here is, that the testing here is currently part of resolving the problem. Testing snapshots is not for end users.
For my taste, there are far too many people involved here who have no technical knowledge at all. (And can’t google either)
If we test a snapshot here and people then come up with “Luci doesn’t work properly”, that’s not helpful. Of course luci doesn’t work properly, because the proprietary Wi-Fi driver is not yet integrated as it should be → That’s why it’s called testing
That’s also the reason why I find such “mega threads” super pointless.
This is, in my opinion, how an issue report should look like: XE3000 repeater 5 GHz iPhone does not work
Maybe Gl-Inet should introduce a forum subcategory for bugs of the Flint 2, so all the reports can be split.
Its very hard to force a user to use a template for their bug reports. The template must be hardcoded to reach a little bit of structure.
Its the same dilemma when you have to administrate a ticket system and users are missing crucial information in their ticket or are unable to describe the problem correctly.
Thanks for the three points. Do agree.
The only problem is that, people may not even post in that category. Forum contents are always difficult to manage.
Hello all,
@admon If anyone is interested in using an OpenWrt NAPSHOT image (r24939-0b498c3c3f) latest version that works fine on GL-MT6000
the image was created with https://firmware-selector.openwrt.org, the installation procedure includes direct installation of openwrt-1e598aee747b-mediatek-filogic-glinet_gl-mt6000-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin
YOU CAN FIND ALL THE DETAILS HERE
please, even the staff can test to see concrete differences!
@oly What exactly works fine or better? I can only see 5Ghz connections.
2.4 ghz and yes 5Ghz I don’t have a device that supports wifi 6, but I’ve tried 160Mhz on the devices I have and it connects seamlessly, you can try, it won’t cost you anything…
If none of them support 160 MHz it’s not very meaningful.
(Wi-Fi 5 does not support 160 MHz)
yes, I understand what you are saying, but if you have wifi 6 devices you can try.
I did the switch to OpenWrt from Uboot and I used the sysupgrade.bin image, everything went very well
Is the 2,4 GHz speed still the same slow ( max 100Mbit on 20 Mhz)?
@bonefire Hi , Could pls share you cofig to us? /etc/config/wireless.
We do some test but can’t recurrence this issue.
@Almahadeus I’m sorry to bother you . This firmware is under inner test at the same time. I release this version and hope it can solve some of your issue. Maybe it too early to do so.
What about discord? Could be easy than forum? What do you think?
@admon Thanks very much.
