Flint 2 (GL-MT6000 ) - bug reports - collective thread

if it helps, access to the Luci interface http://192.168.8.1/cgi-bin/luci/ works perfectly, so the issue lies in the GL-iNet GUI, I think

I am running 4.5.8, release 4.

This update has solved the wifi issues we were experiencing but I now have 2 devices connected to the lan ports that seem to “drop” off the network at random. Rebooting these devices doesn`t always bring things back but restarting the router does.

This did not happen pre upgrade, and has been sporadically happening since. I thought it was actually the other device failing but I have since replaced one of them and it is happening again, and now noticed on a 2nd lan device all together.

I have added additional logging to get the exact time it goes down so that I can then correlate to the logs(hopefully) Will post when it happens again.

Anyone else having issues with devices that seemingly disappear from the network? Almost like it blocks arp/coms/switch functions through the lan ports?

why do you need 23dbm? you know wifi is about symmetrical communication and sharing resources. Also most of wifi clients do not transmit with more than 14-16dbm… setting your router to shout with 23dbm will not make it hear the clients whispering at 14dmb… hence poor wifi communication… more than 16dmb will only create issues in a wifi environment (unless you are all alone on a 100-150m radius)

Please use the latest firmware.

You can upgrade it in LuCI.

Version 4.5.8 does not support WDS. Previously, I used the Flint2 as an Access Point (WDS) with version 4.5.4, alongside another AP functioning as a Client (WDS) . Unfortunately, this architecture is no longer functional.

I also checked the OpenWrt version. It has transitioned from 23.05 to 21.02. Is this intentional, or is there an issue with the release image for 4.5.8?

The version details you provided are as follows:

  • OpenWrt 23.05-SNAPSHOT: r23001+719-38c150612c / LuCI openwrt-23.05 branch git-23.357.58018-024e7ab
  • OpenWrt 21.02-SNAPSHOT: r15812+1071-46b6ee7ffc / LuCI openwrt-21.02 branch git-22.335.71649-0ecaf74

Wait a while and we will push firmware based on 23.05

Will the Access Point (WDS) function properly with the new firmware based on the 23.05 release?

Yes. WDS is supported by the open source wifi driver.

Now you can go back to the old firmware before upgrade.

Thanks! Problem solved, I accessed the settings again and it retained the configuration I made!

I had used native IPv6 with my old ISP on GL-MT6000 build 4.5.6 and it worked great. My new ISP uses 6rd. The 4.5.6 build does not include 6rd, so I added it from LUCI and configured it the same way I have confirmed to work with my Asus router. But it does not work. What is the best way to get 6rd as part of the next 23.05 build? Has anyone got 6rd working and can share tips?

can I do a reflash from CLI? Having the same issue except I can’t log in via LUCI also (it opens the login page but won’t let me in - just goes back straight to blank login). SSH access works normally

Aren’t you going to add the mt6000 to the snapshot tests of version 4.6.0? @JerryZhao

You can use firstboot as SSH command to reset the unit.

but that would reset my whole config (dhcp allocations, vpn configs etc etc) right? I’m looking for a CLI version of firmware upgrade done via GUI with config preserving

Since I would assume that it’s the configs fault that the device is faulty now … I would go for an reset.

Flashing the image is possible as well by using the command sysupgrade <path to bin file>

thanks, went for it… let’s see what happens. This was the output…

root@gateway:/tmp# sysupgrade /tmp/openwrt-mt6000-4.5.8-0412-1712898190.bin
Wed Apr 24 23:45:15 CEST 2024 upgrade: Saving config files…
Warning: Bad CRC, using default environment
Wed Apr 24 23:45:15 CEST 2024 upgrade: Commencing upgrade. Closing all shell sessions.

**** update ****
worked like a charm, config preserved and I can log in normally to GUI now

I came here to ask the same thing. Since it’s taken a massive step backwards, I will stick with 4.5.6.
There is no way I am downgrading to an older version of OpenWRT.

I am having intermittent problems with the WiFi on 4.5.6 but it’s stable enough most of the time and I only get a few complaints from the wife and kids.

If it gets any worse and GL iNet don’t hurry up and release a stable firmware on a modern OpenWRT snapshot, I think I’ll send this unit back to Amazon for a refund… or put it in my wardrobe until they’re serious about stable up-to-date firmware.

bonez,
You should give Open-WRT a try…That have released a Stable version for the Flint 2 and the snapshots which I run now are way ahead version-wise of anything that will be released by GL.inet. GL.inet’s GUI is indeed nice that it makes things super easy but on GL.inet you are always running older versions of Open-Wrt. I made the switch to the real Open-WRT a couple of weeks ago and have not regretted it. GL.inet’s FLINT 2 hardware is very good…It’s just the firmware that is out of date…Which can be resolved by going to the real Open-WRT. There’s a little learning curve with Open-WRT like anything but once you get used to how they do things you’ll be glad you did as that frees you to move to any router that has a build of Open-WRT for it. You use the SYSUPGRADE File to flash directly to Open-WRT from GL.inet’s firmware. That way you retain the GL.inet UBOOT that allows you to easily go back and forth between Open-WRT and GL.inet (Don’t retain the settings when do so).

Hi motox22a,

I tried the OpenWRT snapshot once, but that was not long after I got the router. I like GL iNet’s web interface, but you are right - I can do without it.

I have experience with OpenWRT, about a year ago I flashed a snapshot onto some Linksys Mesh devices and ran them happily for quite a while.

My concern with using the OpenWRT snapshot on the MT6000 was that I’ve seen people post on forums/Github that there are still WiFi stability issues… and I guess 4.5.6 has been “ok” but I’m now getting more complaints from my son that his WiFi is dropping out on the PC, and I’ve noticed several times the WiFi will constantly drop and reconnect on my Oneplus 9RT phone.

I think from memory the last time I tried the snapshot, there was no support for 160Mhz WiFi 6, but I don’t really think that’s a problem (if it’s still the case).

How have you found the WiFi on the snapshot compared to 4.5.6?

Why wait?
Sent it back and save you a “headache”
And get you something else…
