Openwrt gurus, I bought this router. Talk to me about some things please.
One is stock versus Openwrt software.
What all do I lose on stock? Gain on wrt?
Can this support docker like Jellyfin or is that just too much for this?
Have you ever played with Legos? If you use pure Openwrt firmware, it's like putting together a Lego car from scratch. With GL firmware, the lego car is already put together and all you have to do is go "vroom vroom".
Stock is totally fine and the OpenWrt version is fine as well.
It's not like comparing Windows XP to Windows 11 - even the older versions are mostly fine.
I use snapshots so far working fine, but i'd still have the conf-dir option specified as work around, haven't checked without it.
It could break things if gl uses dnsmasq.d too for certain options, maybe ADGH, but im not sure if they now made a fix for that so the fallback behaviour of dnsmasq.d keeps existing, definitely worth for gl to investigate
Installed 4.7.0-op24 (openwrt with Gl.Inet webUI). I honestly prefer the stock gl.inet UI because it's sleek and easy to use. I was hoping that by using this firmware, I can use a mix of gl.inet web and UI for PBR e.g, setup vpn and AdGuard Home in gl.inet web ui and use Luci PBR so I can mix policy based and domain/ip based. Doesn't seem to be the case but maybe I am just doing something wrong.
Yeah just download the beta and install it using the flint 2 web interface. So far, I haven't had any issues. Only thing I wanted to really do was to be able to combine the usage of the gl.inet web interface with PBR in Luci but I can't seem to get it to work. Luci says on the wg0 (wiregurad interface from gl.inet web ui) says that it's unsupported. I was trying to add it manually but wasn't sure if I was doing it right and haven't tried since.
I’m assuming if you just create wireguard in Luci instead of gl.inet web interface, you can just use PBR there instead and have both policy and client based policy? Won’t be able to try for a couple of days but assuming since it’s OpenWRT, it should be able to. But then not I probably would have to set up adguard home in luci.
I noticed I had some issues after I updated new router to gl stable. I eventually went into luci to get more details and suddenly it worked. Seemed odd.
If wire guard is only issue and few other things then I'll give beta a go.
