Flint 2 Won’t Connect to TPG NBN – “No Cable Detected”

Hi everyone,

I’ve just purchased a Flint 2 router and I’m having trouble getting it to work with my TPG NBN connection. The router shows “Connecting” and then displays “No cable detected.”

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Connected the Flint 2 WAN port to the NBN box using an Ethernet cable.

  • Restarted both the NBN box and the Flint 2.

Setup details:

  • ISP: TPG NBN

  • Device: Flint 2 router

I’ve seen similar posts and know Flint 2 works on NBN, so I’m hoping there’s something simple I’m missing. I called TPG for help, but honestly, they were hopeless. If they weren’t so cheap, I’d move on!

Before I start troubleshooting in depth, are there any quick fixes or settings I should check?

Thanks in advance for any help!

“I called TPG and was advised that the GL.iNet Flint 2 is not on their supported device list and, according to them, it won’t be able to achieve their Fast NBN® 500 speeds.”

I was told the I need to get one of the following :frowning:

Hi

This appears to be an Ethernet connection issue between the Flint 2 and your NBN device.

Please work through the steps below:

  1. Test the same Ethernet cable and port with another device (for example, a PC) to confirm the NBN modem is providing a valid link.

  2. Try a different Ethernet cable, including the original cable that came with the Flint 2.

  3. If possible, place an unmanaged switch between the Flint 2 and the NBN modem. This can help rule out Ethernet auto-negotiation compatibility issues.

  4. As a workaround, switch LAN 2 to WAN mode and connect the NBN modem to LAN 2, following this guide:
    GL-MT6000 (Flint2) How change LAN2 - LAN5 port to WAN - #28 by bruce

  5. If the WAN link is still not detected, reconnect the modem to the WAN port and run the following command via SSH to force link parameters:

ethtool -s eth1 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off

If none of the above resolves the issue, please export the system logs and send them to us via PM so we can analyze the problem in more detail.

I spoke with Barry on the GIL.iNet chat, and he suggested I contact my ISP (TPG) to get the VLAN ID. It turns out all I needed was to set the VLAN ID to 2, and the connection worked.
