Flint 3 and new stable firmware 4.8.3

The router notified me that there is new stable firmware 4.8.3 available.

I proceeded with the firmware installation, but when it reached 100%, Internet browsing worked but the router was no longer accessible at 192.168.8.1.

After waiting several minutes without anything happening, I restarted the router by turning the power off and on again, and found that firmware 4.8.1 was installed.

I also tried to proceed with the manual installation by downloading the .bin file from the website, but I got the same result.

Any advice or suggestions?

How does firmware 4.8.99 differ from 4.8.x?

If you haven't already you could try and install the firmware via ethernet maybe?

Reboot the router first and then try the upgrade, also try using Edge / Chrome browser without any extensions.

The 4.8.3 will just mainly have fixes and is the recommended stable build.

You can always check the release notes to find out what's changed.

Here are the release notes for 4.8.3

The 4.8.99 build is a beta build with some exciting new features like DPI (deep packet inspection) which will eventually be coming to the stable build but for now it's a time based trial build whereby the stats / DPI features will stop working. Give it a try, you can always revert to the stable release.

I tried to proceed with the installation from different browsers (Edge, Chrome, and Vivaldi).

Even in private mode without extensions.

I also tried to update manually from a local file.

But the update is not completed correctly in any case.

Thank you for the link to the thread discussing 4.8.99.

Hi!

We've tested this locally and found that upgrading from version 4.8.1 to version 4.8.3 works without issue, whether do this online or via a local installation.

Could you please try again and record a video of your screen to share with us, so that we can understand your specific situation?

You can also try flashing the firmware via uboot to see if this resolves the issue.
For detailed instructions, please refer to this tutorial: What should I do if my router is bricked - GL.iNet Router Docs 4.

I managed to do the update, but I had to uncheck the box for maintaining the configuration.

I had previously saved the configuration using the appropriate LuCI menu, but when I tried to upload the .tar file with the configuration, a pop-up appeared saying that the archive was not readable.

So now I have an updated router but without all the configurations I had previously made, and they are not so easy to re-enter!

We apologise for the inconvenience.

Please note that configurations exported from Luci may not be compatible with different firmware versions.

Regarding the issue where upgrades can only be performed after unchecking 'Keep settings', could you please send us a private message containing the configuration file that was previously exported via Luci (on version 4.8.1, correct?) so that we can investigate the issue further on our side?

Message sent, thank you!

When checking the configuration backup files, I noticed that those created with version 4.8.1 are very large files and are not accepted.

On the other hand, a configuration backup file created previously (with the previous firmware version) is much smaller and is read correctly.
