Is the manufacturer of the AX-1800 network acceleration chip informed about the issue with driver towards openwrt? What is their response?
I suppose GL-Inet is a big customer where they listen to (update the driver so it works on AX-1800)
I just find out:
Samba share to usb harddrive - anonymous and write access.
I cannot upload a file (linux kde dolphin filemanager) to the hdd shared with samba.
Normally this works (in 4.7.0 and lower)
I know that their was no samba at all in 4.8.0, i installed the smb packages and reboot.
Hey everyone!
Had an issue recently trying to upgrade Flint 2 from 4.7.0-op24 beta1 to 4.7.5-op24 beta3. The upgrade goes successful, router reboots but but still reports beta1 from 12/2024.
I ran the update-tailscale.sh script and made it permanent, also I have split the guest network into 2 separate subnets with their own DHCP servers. Could those 2 be the cause of not updating the firmware? Also, where do I get the upgrade logs or a more verbose process?
No.
If would you like to try OpenWrt, go straight to vanilla OpenWrt.
Thanks, what else could be preventing the firmware upgrade?
Are there upgrade logs?
I do not wish vanilla OpenWRT, the GL firmware on GL routers is perfectly fine for me, just need to be able to update
It's probably updated. Just a bug on the release name that they probably forgot to change.
That is what I thought too, but I have two files present in my filesystem:
/etc/version.date
/etc/version.type
on my filesystem they are:
# cat /etc/version.*
2024-12-09 15:53:10
beta1
I opened up the squashfs image from the upgrade binary:
───────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
│ File: version.date
───────┼────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1 │ 2025-05-19 15:59:49
───────┴────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
───────┬────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
│ File: version.type
───────┼────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
1 │ beta3
If /etc/version.date
is 2025-05-19 07:59:49
and /etc/config/version.type
is beta3
in your MT6000, so the firmware 4.7.5-op24
upgraded is succeed.
I'm also trying to reproduce it, seems that there is indeed an issue, but not sure if it's the Samba client or a Samba server issue, let me submit it to R&D guys for checking.
Probably samba server on 4.8.0.
I remember that not all samba pachages are installed after firmware update (normally it is)
I search for smb (in web gui luci packages) and saw the smb package for gli web gui was not installed.
The client I use was KDE dolphin on up-to-date Linux distribution.
Samba server from ax-1800 show the files, but I could not write files to it. (Samba server in glinet webgui was set to anonymous write access.
I removed USB HDD (ext4 partition), so now nothing on ax-1800 USB port.
Yeah, but that's what I am pointing to: the files on the filesystem in the router are still from 2024.12, the system seems to never update
Hello,
The samba server carried by GL firmware depends on samba4-server
.
Thanks. We aware this issue with anonymous access of Samba in "4.8.0 Beta 2025-06-14".
Please try to access Samba with the created user and password first.
Hi,
Please try to flash the firmware in uboot.
And execute the commands to check the firmware:
cat /etc/glversion
cat /etc/version.date
cat /etc/version.type
Flashing via U-Boot would erase all the user settings, no option to keep them, correct?
I used to use a default archive option in luci but in the past it did not restore all of my settings.
Planning to backup /etc
- are there any other locations to back up?
I think the default archive option in luci is including the /etc/
- all configuration files, you can download and open the backup-GL-xxxx-date.tar.gz
file to check once.
You can also SSH manually backup /etc/
.
Kindly note, if you have manually installed third-party plugins, have to reinstall these plugins when uboot flash or reset firmware.
Just a question about the Flint 1 / AX - 1800.
Since the latest stable 4.6.8 firmware is from 2024-10-17 (8 months old firmware), and because the 4.8.0 beta seriously has some issues (samba and hardware acceleration not working), when can we expect a new firmware that is stable and that totally work. (so no missing functions on AX-1800 hardware)
Hardware acceleration is a problem at the bottom of the kernel, and this is not enabled for all firmware versions of AX1800. As it will cause some compatibility with other features or crash issues.
Samba's issue is debuting and are expected to be improved in the next version. Please wait for the next beta version to be released.
Thank you for the reply Bruce.
Can you tell me (about GL-AX1800) what firmware is the latest with hardware acceleration working?
Because i think i don't use the "other futures" that has problem with it.
Besides, the hardwareacceleraation NPU (Networking Processing Unit) works at 1.5GHz, so it must be doing good to a cpu at 1.2GHz. (what i think when i see GL-AX1800 specs)
Because i use basic kinda setup lan, wan in router mode, 2.4 and 5GHz wifi with wpa3 sae, (guest wifi only at 2.4ghz), encrypted dns at Oblivious dns, samba anonymous share with write on (w)lan only ofcourse (usb drives with usb hub connected to ax-1800 usb port in usb3 mode) and igmp snooping and hopefully network acceleration, to make the cpu more relax for usb/samba violence
I don't use cloud services (because of USA law), no adguard (now based in Cyprus, is it based in Turkye part, or Greece part, because of EU privacy law, the owner of AdGuard is from Russia (!)), no vpn (i setup wireguard on clients), no ipv6,
