Flint RAM only 384MB?

After checking with “free” command under CLI, Flint only has 384MB memory instead of the Specs stated “512MB” ?

My Brume-W is as specs stated has 1GB memory:

My two Flint’s in Moscow, now they are going to my city, delivery date is 18.10.2021. And i’m will see how many memory in my routers.

Is it normal, that OpenWrt is in version 15? I suspected it will be on 21

The chipset reserved some memory for purpose. So there is 394 left.

@alzhao, sorry, but is this a truth? Can you give us some technical documentation about this?

This is the truth. I will try to find some tech documents.

Someone else mentioned this in another thread:

Reserved for what? I’m never heard about that. Only hear about reserve ram for video adapter.

Also only have 394Mb

It is reserved for wifi firmware.

Flint reserved approximately 128 mb ram for the hardware as it needs memory to load the FW and run its thing, WLAN is run on a separate processor Q6 that runs its own FW.

So can we get 512mb if turn off wifi ? Some times you let it run as a main router or vpn server without wifi

I don’t think it can be done in current firmware because the RAM is not managed by the Linux. It could be achieved if compile new firmware but this is only a guess.

so, can I guess that, when wifi 6 support on openwrt becomes mature, then flint with a new firmware may not need a seperate firmware (and set aside ram) to run the wifi ?

i wonder how did xiaomi make their wifi 6 work, their ax routers are based on openwrt too right ?

You are totally correct.

I think everyone use Qualcomm SDK. But I cannot confirm.

@alzhao Qualcomm have plans to update sdk?
