After upgrading the latest -4.3.27 firmware with resetting settings, I noticed that I can't install any packages, since there is no space left.
What could be done in this scenario for this unit alone, to make more space on default clean unit?
Could GL GUI be uninstalled completely and packages removed if possible, and only relay on LuCI on this low resource unit? Too bad that the model with more space is not available anywhere to buy.
Could GL provide LuCI version with latest kernel and LuCI just for this model?
Any other ideas? For this reason I might have to downgrade to much older version, but security/patches are important.
Ok thank you for your reply. I understand you will not provide a support. But may I ask this at least, if I get the kernel image from the link your provided for the latest stable version which is 24.10.1, can I easily revert to the GL version if I see a problems? Any general ideas how much space I can gain before I attempt installation to see if it ie even worth it.
I most of the time do not use GUI, I like to ssh to the unit and use tcpdump during my development for a networking code I am working on. So minimal LuCI is good enough for me.
I have 24.10.1 on an AR300M, the one with 128MB of NAND flash storage. Even after installing several packages and my custom code, I am only using 8 MB on the NAND, so it would only half fill your AR300M16. I believe the base, including LuCI, was around 5MB before I started adding stuff.
Using the GL iNet U-Boot processes, you are able to switch between OpenWRT and GL iNet firmware if you have a PC with an Ethernet port, in case you decide to revert.
There is a lot of bloat in the 4.x code, so I am not running it on any of my GL iNet routers. I am running a mix of OpenWRT and 3.x GL iNet firmware
