GL-AXT1800 : Error -50 when copying files to a shared (exfat) disk on Mac OS

It's necessary and deserved!

@bruce...?

I found a reply from GL-iNet staff:

We're just at the beginning of beta 4.6,0, looks like we still have to wait some more :rage:

Hi,

Copy that. Let me check it and ask our R&D team how they plan about this issue.

Hi Bruce,
Yes, if we can migrate to kernel 5.4, then we can disable the samba vfs_fruit module and Mac client can access the sd card directly using kmod-fs-exfat.
Also can you find out if there is any outstanding bugs on GL.iNet's own gl-sdk4-nas-exfat package? This bug is preventing the vfs_fruit module creating the AppleDouble file inside samba (the default method, and hence the official recommendation for using only ntfs and ext4). The current version of gl-sdk4-nas-exfat is v1.6-1. And will there be any fix for that?
Thanks.

On 4.6.0 Beta (20/Jun/2024), this is what happens when I try to move files to the shared folder (Flint 2):

Hi,

There is no problem at my Flint 2, USB Disk formatted NTFS. Please check the SMB configurations of your Flint 2.

I will submit your suggestion to software teams. Before the stable firmware released, we will also try our best to test completely if the Network Storage (SMB) switch to use the 'kmod-fs-exfat'.

Formatted to EXT4 and seems to have fixed the problem, but today I updated to 4.6.2 Beta (28/06/2024) and the SanDisk Ultra Luxe USB Flash Drive is not recognized anymore.

There is no error or record in the log when removing and reattaching it to the USB port.

It always works, please check it over again. :grin:

Re-inserted the flash disk drive and restarted Flint2.
It's still not working ("No device detected") :thinking:

Previously, it was formatted as ExFAT, than I was having problem when moving large files to the shared folder.
Then I formatted as EXT4 and it fixed the problem and was working well before the update to Beta 4.6.2

Could you please try to downgrade to before the version 4.6.2, and see if it works ok over again?

I deleted the previous firmware
Where can I find it to download it again? It was the pevious Beta (I guess from around 20th of June)

@bruce, before to make the downgrade, I tried once again:

Removed the Flash Drive from MT6000;
Plugged it in a Windows computer;
Windows recognized the Flash Drive but didn't mounted it (because it's a ext4 partition);
Plugged it back to the router and after these messages, it has been reccognized as it should be

Did you try to copy a dozen of files, with different sizes and paste them to Flint2?

I noticed the speed is high at the beggining, but then it reduce a lot:

Seems it depends on your USB device.

The speed is different, but your graph shows the same behaviour: it starts at a much higher speed and then reduces

Are you connected to the ethernet or wireless network?

Before doing this test, keep the USB Flash Drive connected to your Flint2 by some hours, until the temperature keep stable (it will be around 45°C in idle), then make the test.

Because that file is above 2GB.

Connectivity by WiFi.

The speed closes as yesterday, and the U-Disk always connected with MT6000 from yesterday.

This file is 1GB.

Note: the network storage of the router is not for instead of the NAS devices, and it could not achieve professional NAS requirement.

Ok, but it seems much faster than mine.
Mine is formated using Partition Wizard as ext4 (it's supposed to be better to use a Linux native filesystem, but looks like NTFS has a better performance :thinking:)

With how much mbps uplink does your device your are trying to upload from syncs to the Wi-Fi?
Since Wi-Fi isn't real full-duplex upload can be way slower than download.
