GL-BE9000 frequent packet loss with VPN on 4.9.0 firmware

I have upgraded to 4.9.0 firmware, and have a setup that looks like below. Every 10-20 mins or so, I get intermittent periods of 100% packet loss across all devices on my network for up to a second or so (usually less), regardless of which “zone” they’re in, even if they’re in the first bypass all VPNs zone, and have all other stages disabled. This mostly stops happening if I disable all VPN functionality. It does not seem to correlate consistently with anything in the system logs as far as I can tell.

I have tried fully factory resetting the router, as well as reinstalling the firmware, no dice. I also have IPv6 turned on set to native, if that affects anything (I have not tried turning it off, I need it for some stuff in my network)

Manual DNS has been set to Quad9 No Security, but it doesn’t seem to change anything regardless of how I set it.

There’s 3 layers here, nothing is hidden beyond the third one.

This can be seen with a flood ping test, and can also be seen when using Twitch and other sites that use websockets, which lose connection. All DPI features are disabled.

Hi

That sounds a bit unusual.

Could you please

  1. Try using MTR to determine where the packet loss is occurring along the network path?

  2. After the issue occurs, export the logs and send them to us via private message.

Updating here for people who are looking for this: this is an issue related to reloading the network service when using IPv6, causing the hitching/loss. It is being investigated, but in the meantime, disabling IPv6 on the router prevents the loss.

I need IPv6 occasionally so for me it’s not an ideal solution, but it does help for now.

Most likely this is the issue with the op25 build too since I tried it and experienced packet loss and momentary connection loss, reviewing the logs during the loss I noticed up renewal requests even though it wasn’t even time for the lease to expire. Im currently using the snapshot build from July 31 it’s been running for 4 days and 6 hours with no issues but I still see up renewal request every few hours.
