We are glad to upgrade our DDNS service. This service is still Beta so all feedback is welcomed.
- Real Dynamic DNS service and it is available for GL.inet devices.
- Service is disabled by default. You can enable and disable any time.
- You can enable http or ssh access of your router.
How to enable and use this service:
Firmware 2.x can use this service. You need to enable WAN access. We may suspend the DDNS for firmware 2.x after releasing all 3.x firmware for all models. The following guide is only on firmware 3.x.
Note: You have to upgrade to firmware v3.010 in order to have DDNS in firmware 3.x. Please check instructions below.
Note: To enable DDNS service, please check the docs here : https://docs.gl-inet.com/en/3/app/ddns/. You need to go to Applications->Plug-ins, update package list and then install gl-cloud-ui
.
Note about firmware upgrade:
When you upgrade your firmware from 3.010 to newer version later. You may need to install gl-cloud-ui again to use this service. We may embed this service to newer versions.

About Usability and Security:
- Firmware 2.x can also use this service. If you use firmware 3.x please upgrade to firmware 3.010 and newer.
- This is a real dynamic DNS service. It only resolve your DNS to your router’s public IP. Enabling this service doesn’t mean or ensure that your router is exposed to the Internet.
- If your device is behind a firewall, you need to set up port-forward or DMZ on your ISP router.
- Not all ISP allows for setting up a server. So your ISP may blocked your server so there is no way to access it from the Internet using DDNS. Most Carrier networks doesn’t allow setting up a server. So if you use MiFi and connected to 3G/4G network, you are likely not able to use this service. If you want to access the router anywhere you may need to consider GL.iNet GoodCloud service.
- Enabling HTTP service is not secure as HTTP is not encrypted. Use at your own risk.
- You need to take care of your own server security. This is just a domain resolving service.
