Dear all,
I use a GL-MT3000 with firmware 4.6.4 connected via ethernet cable to the LAN port of a Vodafone station which is connected to the internet provided by Vodafone via cable. The current network set-up in the GL-MT3000 admin page is depicted below.
I am using the WAN Port of the GL-MT3000 to connect to the Vodafone station, as recommended in the set-up guide. After the connection is set-up, at some point (after some hours or up to two days), the WLAN of the GL-MT3000 cannot be found anymore by various devices (laptop, smartphone, ...) and it is not available even after some hours of wait, though the Vodafone station provides ethernet access during this time (e.g. there is a laptop connected to it via ethernet). I use standard settings (DHCP protocol) on the GL-MT3000, mostly. If I plug off the ethernet cable and power supply from the GL-MT3000 and plug it back in, after some while, WLAN access (5GHz at least) to GL-MT3000 is available again.
Why is there no automatism for the GL-MT3000, such that connection of the GL-MT3000 to ethernet or to whatever is missing is refreshed, such that WLAN access to GL-MT3000 is back up after a few seconds, at least?
May I know what firmware version of the router is?
May I know if you use the repeater priority 1, if the WLAN of the router works well?
Please export the syslog when you find it have not Internet, and please check the main page (Internet) of the GL admin panel, if the Ethernet icon light and the info shows connected?
Hi Bruce,
Thanks for you reply.
the GL-MT3000 is on firmware version 4.6.4. I am not intending to use repeater as priority 1, at least as long as it is using WLAN for repeating (there is no ethernet repeater as far as I know).
WLAN of the Vodafone station is quite weak and 10x slower than ethernet (this is why I am using the GL-MT3000, after all). In fact, i have just switched on the repeater for troubleshooting purposes and want to switch it off once ethernet connection to GL-MT3000 works properly.
I might try to set the repeater as prio in future, if you think this is helpful. Meanwhile, WLAN again disappeared from GL-MT3000 some hours ago, I have collected the log files and attached them (as a zipped file), such that you can check the error.
Thanks,

The issue occurred while using WAN connecting to the ISP. This is also the goal:
connect GL-MT3000 with the ISP (Vodafone, from which I am using an Internet router with 1 GBit LAN ports) via WAN, in order to use GL-MT3000 as a WLAN hub for various mobile devices. This is a home set-up to be run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Expectation is that there is WLAN downtime on GL-MT3000 only during occasional automatic reconnects, lasting less than a minute.
I just added the repeater to test if the issue is just tied to WAN. No, also when adding the repeater as an option, the issue appears.
Please check the log files to see what happened, and advice.
I never changed the power supply or its connection, it is the same white USB cable I got from factory.
This set-up worked for nearly one year, till recently. Do you see in the logs when the connection drops?
Seems to be alot of people having this issue or the similar one with the lan dropping out and the router only showing the power light. When cycled sometimes it will turn on, othertimes it just flashes the 2.4 wifi for sec then no lights except power and no response from the device. Im having this issue on 2 different spitz ax's. Just got new power adapter to try I have a feeing its some weird flaw in the firmwares.
Issue appeared again now (I reconnected just to be able to pull the logs). There is even no light anymore. Why would a new power adapter help? Hardly ever had one fail in my life, and there is no sign it failed other than no WLAN signal. My issue just appeared some weeks ago. Could have happened via a firmware update (think I updated to 4.6.4 rather recently). Please somebody check the attached logs now, I can even pull additional ones from the current failure if needed.
Further actions taken:
-Resetted the GL-MT3000 to factory via reset button (Feedback: this button is very untactile, i.e. since the router is in some corner in the office).
-Checked all the settings in both involved routers.
-Restarted the Vodafone router
I have no other adequate adapter than this one. All I could do is plug some arbitrary USB C cable in there. And then wait for >72 hours to be sure there is no problem, in case there is none. Not even sure if this is supported. Not a systematic way to solve a problem. First tell me what the problem is with the factory power adapter.
BTW, this should be checkable via control light on the router.
Feedback: I have a very hard time to check the control light. It all appears to be some kind of blue,
if there is one at all (currently there is no control light visible at all).
What about other colors in future: e.g. green, red, yellow.
EDIT: I just pulled the power plug and plugged it immediately back in. As a result there is some sequence of blue light, then WLAN is back up again, and constant blue light remains.
Pulling USB C power and reconnecting it does reenable WLAN (till the issue appears again).
Meanwhile I have connected another power adapter (the best I could find: an Anker 737 and Anker cable). After more than 24h, the WLAN is still up. Will continue to check. Please just tell me what you can see in the logs, and what is the indication that the factory power adapter does not work? And what is the recommendation to replace the factory power adapter with (and after all, isn't there a replacement I can receive from the manufacturer of this router, since the issue appeared after <1 year of operation)?
Thanks,
Andreas
Now even with the other power adapter (Anker 737), the WLAN is not available anymore. Therefore, there is still the same issue as before. I do not expect another power adapter will help. The control light on the GL-MT3000 is shining constantly in some flavor of blue, at present.
What to do now?
Attached the latest logs after reconnecting power and ethernet. logread (2).tar (179.5 KB)
Just to add, I am having the same exact issue on 4.6.4 connecting to a Starlink.
The MT3000 is disconnecting the Ethernet connection for some reason even though the Starlink is not dropping out. Sometimes MT3000 will re-connect, and sometimes it does not and shows "Connecting..." forever. If I unplug the Ethernet cable from MT3000 and plug it back in things will work again for a while.....
I have downgraded back to 4.5.16 as I think this is a firmware bug. I suggest you try the same and see if the issue goes away. I was running 4.5.16 for months with no issues, so I think this is a firmware issue with 4.6.4.
I also have the impression it is the firmware version, since this is the only thing which appears to have changed during recent weeks on my MT3000. Though I even have no idea how to downgrade properly. And I have subjectively no time to play around with this.
I will now give a judgement on this product: it cost around €100 and alone in this thread, I have invested more time already than this server is worth.
I come to the conclusion that this product as a whole has been a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT so far. I'll try to upgrade to 4.7 once this is available. Why does still no-one analyze my logs, there should be a clue in there what goes wrong here. Interestingly the NGINX error log is empty, and there is no error pointed out explicitly in the logs, nor is the device giving any clear signal that there is no WLAN signal (just some blue light).
Now if what I describe here is no error ... . I would not recommend any prospective customer losing time with this product, despite buying it, based on the experience so far. I have a Vodafone station from the ISP which had no such downtime since various years, and it is just a very basic router (not even a Fritzbox). Guess I should go for something like a Fritzbox instead.
I downloaded this stuff and installed it. Now the set-up is running again. Does not take 5 min to see if this worked. As I told you now several times above, takes around 2-3 days to have certain confidence that the router works stable. 3 days =4320 min = 864 x 5min. Did you have school education?
