GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) Multiwan failover mode (Priority not respected)

Still working on the failing interface non detected issue, I was asked to test failover from 4G router (Ethernet 2) to Repeater (hotspot from a phone). By the way, I also fixed an unrelated issue with scanning and connecting to a 5Ghz hotspot served by an android phone which I didn't have with an iPhone.

The good news: I still have Internet when I switch off the phone SIM while the router is still connected to the phone hotspot.

The bad news: unfortunately, it seems that the Repeater gets priority despite Ethernet 2 being above Repeater:

Steps:

1. Internet with only Ethernet 2
2. Repeater mode live: Internet still ok but routes go through Repeater now ???
3. Turning off phone SIM: Internet still ok. But now I'm not sure if it's not a failover instead of a restore back as the Repeater mode took higher priority.
4. Turning back on phone SIM: Internet still ok but routes go through Repeater again?

Why doesn't the router take Ethernet 2 as the default Internet route as directed?

I don't see why the two interfaces would be on the same subnet. The netmask from both (ISP modem and 4G router) dhcp servers is 255.255.255.0. And where would be an IP conflict if the two interfaces are assigned different addresses and different gateways to the Internet at large? Really, this use case seems to be the closest to a by the book use case for the multiwan failover mode and still the manual is finally not so clear on how to make it work.
