GL-MV1000 (Brume) OpenWRT 22

The firmware development for the Brume is not really satisfying for customers. I bought this device only because it belongs to the most powerful ones when it comes to transfer rates with wireguard. I am using two of them. One as server and one as client at different places.

Will non-beta, production ready 3.212 firmware version release happen before the initial 4.x release? I would just like to have a working, production released version of GL iNet code for my AR750s. I would like something from GL iNet based on OpenWRT 19.06.8, 19.06.9 or 19.06.10 that is not beta and that does not hang or crash on my AR750s. I’m currently limping along on 3.212 beta 3. The hints you have given on the 4.x firmware sounds great, but it is already almost a year late and we need something stable for our routers now.

3.212 is out as stable.

We’re into June. So, hopefully some updates on openwrt 21. My Berly only lasts about 15 minutes before it dies of a kernel panic. :frowning:

Sat Jun 4 18:52:29 2022 kern.warn kernel: [17506.306701] ------------[ cut here ]------------

I just checked the web site and it says the GL-MV1000 is end of life and no longer in stock!

Curious why it was discontinued, I love the router and recommend it to everyone. Especially like that it’s offered in a wired only version.

Short answer: The chipset for Brume is not available now.

Thank you. I’m interested to see what they roll out to replace the Brume, ideally something that offers a no wireless option and maintains about the same size and form factor. I started recommending the Brume to everyone now I’m searching for a substitute.

Out of curiosity, how do you use your brume?

As an always on whole home/office VPN. Nothing leaves my networks over the clearnet.

More likely a variant of the the Slate AX

I would also agree. Currently the same price (pre-order) as the Brume (no wifi) was at full price and better in almost every single way. The only features that the Brume have going for it over the Slate AX are smaller form factor, ability to dual boot Ubuntu, USB-C connection to pc… I think that’s about it. VPN speed is much faster with the Slate AX at 550Mbps Wireguard, 120Mbps OpenVPN speeds vs 280Mbps Wireguard, 97Mbps OpenVPN with the Brume.

MV1000 will be replaced by a new product, designed by a new chipset. Better vpn, wireguard and NAT speed. Hope cheaper and smaller as well.

Wow. That’s great to hear alzhao! On the same topic, do you know if there may be any product that will replace the USB150? Thanks!

Sorry no info in this part.

Is there still a chance for an update on 4.x?

This thread seems to indicate that there won’t be a 4.x release Products End of Life (EOL) Notice - #15 by oceanmasterza

It was just written that the can’t promise it now. That was two and a half month ago. Maybe they know something new now.
Would be sad and unnecessary if not. In times of many people are talking about sustainability it is a shame if a companies priority is only to sell new devices instead of maintaining their products to last long. And of course, it is also part of the decision which brand to choose if new devices are necessary.

I am a huge fan of sustainability as well. But on the other hand, plenty of chips needed to be replaced, because they are unavailable.
If I compare GL.iNet with other Brands I worked with (in private and business), I am pretty sure a bug would be fixed faster and longer (maybe after EOL, depending on the impact) than on competitor products.

I can order Netgear switches with last update 2015. And many people I know are happy, because ‘I know it well’. Yes, with all problems and workarounds… On the other side it needed to be the bleeding edge shit, bet update twice a day. Release all the features!

Why do we want 4.x on the Brumme? Because it worked bad in the past? I don’t think so.
I have a Beryl still on 3.x, because I’m too lazy to upgrade and it is just working. Not my every day router, bit reliable…
Sure, the new features in 4.x on the SlateAX are great! I’d love to have the same on all devices. But a I read here about the issues the (quit small) team ist struggling with, I’d rather like a stable 3.x and a stable 4.x router, than 2 4.x routers, and only one of it is properly tested…
This is also a kind of sustainability.

New versions are not only about new features, but often also about closed security gaps and performance improvements. For me it is incomprehensible why the Brume had to wait quite a long time for updates. I have learned my lesson with this company. There are finally more and more companies that have also implemented wireguard.

I was going to start another post but figured replying here would be best.
OP’s question has not been clearly answered yet:

When will we see (officially supported) OpenWRT 21/22 based Firmware updates?

I’m interested as well to know this for sure because if not, then I also have a hard time recommending your future product line to others.

Either way the devices I own are still going to be used with or without your support.
