At least I think it is bricked. Bought from Amazon, sealed as far as I could tell.
After setting the password for the first time, when I try to login it would say "login attempt failed too many times." After waiting and trying again it would say "invalid credential and password." I reset it multiple times. I tried a super simple password. I tried following the unbrick guide. Nothing worked.
I'll be returning this. Not sure if I want to buy another one.
Probably the password you first set is not the same as the one you entered when you login.
Press and hold the reset button for more than 8 seconds and confirm it has been successfully restored to factory settings, and then set the login password again.
I did the factory reset multiple times. I even used a simple password like 'goodlife' but same errors. I stopped trying after several attempts of resetting the router.
So you reset the router,
Then after reset, the router asked you to set up password again or remained the old password?
Do you have any anti virus software on your computer preventing you to login? Before I have bitdefender and it prevent me input password in http website.
As I'm conducting research on the quality and performance of the GL.iNet Opal, I came across this forum and couldn't help but wonder: although it's slightly off-topic, would you recommend the Opal for traveling to the Atlantic?
I'm particularly interested in the real-world performance regarding segregated networks or VLANs, WireGuard connections back home, and the repeater function in places like ships, airports, or hotels.
Would you be so kind and share your real world experience?
I assume, yours didn't brick out of the box.
Thank you for considering my questions and Happy Wednesday
I've got four Opals, I throw one in a bag for work when I'm travelling across the UK, it lets me connect back to the office over VPN on most captive portals and other people's WiFi.
Also had no issues with usb or wireless tether to mobile.
I like it because it's cheap, it's powered via USB C and it's half the price of the Slate AX and Beryl AX, so if I misplace it I can remotely wipe it using Goodcloud and get another one.
The logic and use case behind your decision to acquire four Opals is fascinating. I understand your rationale, considering the price point makes it sufficient for handling a VPN connection back to an office.
I'm curious about your VPN speed test performance.
Are you able to achieve more than 50 Mbps up and down when connecting to a fast coffee shop or hotel internet?
Have you considered modifying the device by changing its color to make it more appealing for daily use?
Thank you for considering my questions and Happy Wednesday
Even though I do not own an Opal router, if you don't mind, it would be fascinating and quite the eye candy if you could share your setup experience straight out of the box.
Based on @hecatae use case example, the product seems to be an excellent choice, one I am maybe considering for the upcoming and exciting winter holidays.
May you relish every moment of your troubleshooting experience with your Opal and Happy Wednesday
I'm delighted to read polite and friendly communications that entertain and bring laughter and happiness throughout this forum.
In fact, I’m something of an observer from outer space!
Jokes aside, as I’ve read through your forum’s documentation and informative product announcements, as I mentioned in another post to @bruce , you all rock!
To be honest, after reading a lot of information within multiple forums regarding Opal's performance issues, I find @hecatae realistic use case to be very good. I'm still curious to know @Ricesteam first set up results.
Thank you for reaching out. I am still undecided between several travel routers within the very tempting GL.iNet product portfolio.
However, I have some reservations due to reports from other customers about performance issues with the Opal, such as random reboots. These concerns make me hesitant to choose it as a Christmas gift for a very important family member who will be traveling extensively next year.
Additionally, the person is not very tech-savvy. My plan is to set everything up in advance so that they would only need to connect to existing hotel or airport Wi-Fi with a VPN connection.
The price is very appealing, especially during Black Friday.
While this deviates slightly from @Ricesteam topic, I am eager to find out if the setup was successful.
Once again, thank you for sharing your experience with Opal.
