GL-X3000 + eSIM (Ubigi) – connects to network but no data / no IP

Hi,

I'm using a GL.iNet GL-X3000 (RM520N modem) with an EIOTCLUB eSIM in slot 2.

The eSIM contains multiple profiles:

  • EIOTCLUB → was already on the esim when bought --> works perfectly (data + IP assigned)

  • Ubigi → was puchased separatly --> does NOT work

Problem

With the Ubigi profile:

  • Modem registers to network (Telekom DE, 5G NSA)

  • Signal and registration are fine

  • But:

    • no data connection

    • no IP address assigned

Settings used

  • APN: mbb

  • Authentication: none

  • PDP: IPv4

Logs (relevant)

requestSetupDataCall QMUXResult = 0x1, QMUXError = 0xe
call_end_reason_verbose = 210

After forcing IPv4:
udhcpc: sending discover
(repeats, no lease)

Final result:
Dial-up is failed using network configuration

Conclusion

Question

Has anyone successfully used Ubigi Profile in combination with an EIOTCLUB eSIM on GL-X3000 / RM520N?

Are there special APN rather then mbb which I have configured or modem settings required for Ubigi on routers (within Germany)?

Thanks!

Hi @fpe

Do you have other sim cards to test the cellular function?
Additionally, please export the modem-debug info from the INTERNET ->Cellular ->Modem Management to check the modem status.

Additionally, since I am not fully sure whether everything relevant is covered in the modem debug as it cannot be exported anymore when the Ubigi Profile is loading (seems the whole system is freezing) - I am also attaching some extra snippets captured with logread - modem on the OS level.

Hi Cathy,

thanks for your response.

Yes, I have tested with another SIM:

  • A Congstar SIM (Telekom network) in SIM Slot 1 works perfectly (data + IP).

  • This confirms that the cellular function of the router is working fine.

For SIM Slot 2 (eSIM):

  • The EIOTCLUB profile (pre-installed on the eSIM) works without any issues.

  • However, when switching to the Ubigi profile on the same eSIM, problems occur.

What I already did:

  • Changed APN according to Ubigi documentation from mobiledatambb

Result:

  • Network registration works

  • But no data connection / no IP is assigned

So in summary:

  • Same device, same modem

  • Same eSIM

  • EIOTCLUB profile → works

  • Ubigi profile → fails (data call / IP assignment)

I’ve attached the modem debug log for further analysis.

Thanks!

@fpe It seems the sim card uses Telekom network. Please change APN to internet.telekom to see if it works.

If issue persists, can you share device to support to check?

Update for reference: This issue may be due to compatibility problems between the modem and the network frequency bands used by the Ubigi eSIM profile. Upgrading the modem can help resolve this issue.

After updating the firmware from RM520NGLAAR03A03M4G_01.201.01.201 to RM520NGLAAR03A04M4G_01.202.01.202 everything works as expected.
Thanks Cathy for your help!
