No problem, thought this might be the case… but just imagine a USB dongle with an eSIM built in, that you add to any GLiNET router… how good would that be!
Hi SmurfonToast, there is good news, we will release a new product, it is USB dongle and it's compatible with our router.
And it is a small router, there is 2.4G wifi for customer to connect, it can work with laptop, power bank, power adapter or USB in car.
In the first stage it don't support esim function, we will add a physical sim card, you can choose different data package, refer to pictures below.
do you think it is useful for your requirement?
If you had such a device, could you give us a more detailed description of how you would use it, along with your key concerns or pain points?
Hi,
I’m not sure what you are selling here but it looks like data packages for your SIM/Future eSIM.
If I’m honest my first reaction is no way, not for me, who wants a proprietary SIM arrangement that locks you into a specific service.
GLiNET device users are (IMO) often a bit more technically minded and price sensitive I believe, so they like flexibility and they like to tinker. They like options and on a personal level, value ones.
So a USB eSIM carrier that you can put into the USB port of any GLiNET modem that has a port, that you then buy eSIM packages for over the internet, would interest me; one with a couple of TS9 jacks you can add antennas onto.
My use-case is occasional work travel, personal travel, where I need internet and it’s either spotty (poor or intermittent) or I need the router features.
Probably not what you wanted to hear and I’m sure you will get many different opinions on this.
I appreciate it is difficult with so many options, hardware, software addons, FW etc, but I’ve long held the view that there is a danger that if you produce so many different devices without sorting out issues with existing devices, folks will get saturated.
Hi SmurfonToast,
Thank you for your honest and detailed feedback — it’s truly valuable to us, and I really appreciate it.
What we’re introducing is actually a 4G USB dongle we call uFi, which comes with a built-in data SIM card that includes 10GB of data. This SIM supports multiple carriers and will automatically connect to the best available network based on your location.
Once the 10GB of included data is used up, you’re free to either top up based on your needs or simply replace the SIM with your own data SIM.
From your message, I can tell you’re looking for a USB dongle that supports eSIM, and that’s very much aligned with what we’re planning — we’re working on an eSIM-capable version of uFi, which we expect to release in about 3 to 4 months.
You can check out more details about the current uFi here:

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts — it’s feedback like yours that helps us make better products for real users.
Hi @Hoff
Thank you for coming back on that, well it certainly goes beyond where I though it was heading, so really good on GLiNET for that, credit where credit is due.
Like buying a bottle of Juice then filling it up again by squeezing your own oranges after you drank the store-bought one :-).
Let's see how that develops, I think a lot of folks baulk at using a phone for tethering, and a large battery-powered or power-hungry unit, so reverting to the older style dongle/wingle that is powered solely by the Router's USB port and does not have dual-NAT Hi-Link style connectivity is a plus IMO, if that is what it offers.
I am not sure if you're considering splittng off two branches, but my guess is that folks with Routers don't really care about built-in Wifi, the Router does that SO much better; they want a native modem-only device, like the E3372 (stick mode). So the Wifi component does not provide much interest for me (at all) TBH, it is the 4G/LTE performance and ease of connectivty, SMS/USSD options, recharge from the Router GUI, that sort of thing.
Anwyay best of luck with the trials!
k.
Thank you once again for your valuable input — it’s genuinely helpful for our future product planning.
This current product works in NAT mode, so direct passthrough (stick mode) is not available yet. That feature is planned for our next-generation product, which will be based on RedCap (Reduced Capability) technology, expected to be ready sometime next year.
Here are a few more details you might find useful:
-
4G/LTE Performance: When inserted into a GL.iNet router, typical speeds reach around 50Mbps, with peak speeds up to 70Mbps.
-
Ease of Connectivity: Simply plug it into a GL.iNet router and click “Tethering” in the UI to get connected — it’s plug and play.
-
SMS / USSD Support: Both features are supported. You can manage them via the router interface (see image below for reference).
-
Recharge from the Router Interface: Each unit comes with a QR code on the label — just scan it to easily top up data when needed.
So please explain to me Hoff , I got the eiotclub card , I have the 750 mudi , so what to do to install so I can put my own esim ? I am a noob as you can understand.
