Is my Brume 2 dead?

Overview

Similar to Brume 2 is dead, cannot access uboot, I had no luck accessing uboot or the regular interface. Over the past 8 months, the device exhibited symptoms that I thought were irrelevant. I appreciate any help from the team or community members.

Symptoms

Note: I always use Brume 2 in Drop-in Gateway mode

  1. After 2 days or so of uptime, the device is not identified as a client on my main router. Since it's running in gateway mode, all clients get redirected to brume 2, hence all devices on my network suddenly had no internet access. I frequently rebooted my main router and brume 2, and after many reboots, brume 2 is identitfied as a client and my devices got internet access. I checked the logs back then, it had nothing out of ordinary as far as I remember
  2. After that incident, brume 2 repeated this on random occurences:
    • Suddenly local devices lose internet access
    • Need to restart brume 2 and main router
    • Wait for more than an hour to get network connectivity.
    • If I don't want to wait, I reset my device through the reset button, but in the last few times this happened the reset button did nothing
  3. One day while I am away, I was checking brume 2 configuration from GoodCloud. Brume 2 lost internet connection again. This time neither reboots worked nor device resets. I tried uboot with no luck (as described in the linked post)

Notes

  • Brume 2 is always used in Drop-in gateway mode
  • I used the LAN port when trying to access uboot

What is the LED status when it suddently have problems? blue or flashing blue?

Do you mean you cannot get into uboot, or you did but you cannot reinstall the firmware?

If it is the former, can you let me know if the LED flashes in the correct sequence when you enter uboot?

Hi alzhao, thanks for your reply.

I recall when on 4.4.6 (before the critical nginx patch), It was always flashing blue, even in normal operation. I stayed a long time with 4.4.6 as I had a few problems with later firmwares (for example Failed to install nfs-kernel-server on 4.5.16 and Flint (GL-AX1800) is unresponsive on 4.5.16). On latest firmware, it's always "blue", even when the problem occurs

Yes I cannot get to uboot. Here are the steps I perform:

  1. Remove any cable from brume 2
  2. Plug in an ethernet cable to the LAN port and to my laptop
  3. Plug in the power cable
  4. While clicking on the reset button, plug in the power outlet

Brume 2 flashes five times in blue, then it gets constant. I then release my finger from the "reset" button and try to connect to uboot

All the steps you have done are correctly.

Can you confirm how did you set on the computer? have to use manual IP 192.168.1.2

Yes, I set my computer's IP to 192.168.1.2 and try to access http://192.168.1.1 from a web browser

If every step is correct but still cannot access uboot, the only way is just try using another computer.

Hi alzhao, I have given up on the brume 2. I am using a low-spec PC with Linux and AdGuard installed and connected to my main router. I've designated it as the internet gateway and at least I have basic protection (for now).

I am willing to open the device and see inside. Maybe something is broken. Will you be able to identify anything if I captured an image of the internal board ?

How about we give you a replacement and you send the one back to us as is. We will do investigation locally.
