I think purely looking to vanilla OpenWrt 128M still is okay.
But it is expected to use it as a normal router, theres still room that you can still fiddle with packages but not those with lots of adblocks.
It will however be interesting what wifi chip it uses the wireless blob will get loaded in memory, I hope they avoid wifi 7 all together because these blobs actually should require more ram, more the 1gb ram in my eyes, Beryl 7 had 70% usage on 512M.
Older chipsets have much more size reduced on those blobs.
What I'm also interested in is if amneziawg is a bigger counter part or if it can still hold a good footprint with memory size.
You are probably right. There were only six devices in our party connecting, and not all of them were streaming over wireguard at the same time. We were getting around 60mbps to the UK and 15mbps over the tunnel, over the 100mbps connections in the area. Cell service of course was spotty. But I had to carry the router and the GaN brick and I appreciated every ounce I didn’t have to lug.
I somewhat disagree. I think it should be Wi-Fi 6/802.11ax. Wi-Fi 5/802.11ac only improves the 5GHz radio, while the 2.4GHz remains the same. I think a lot of people (myself included) use the OG Mango either as a satellite access point or for our IoT network. I totally agree on size, smaller is better, no screen, no battery, and the power. I would love it if uses 1 amp or less like the OG Mango, but again Wi-Fi 6 offers better power to performance to my knowledge than Wi-Fi 5. Gigabit ethernet is also must. Just my two cents, I know there has already been an announcement.
Yes. Half the time staying at an AirBnb I can find the router and use ethernet for lan and power the mango from a USB port on the router. Usually that is where the TV, DVD, router, satellite are all sharing a plug and there is no room left at the inn.
Addition of 5 GHz and/or a second radio so that receive and transmit can have different channels in Repeater mode. USB C. If it's possible without increasing the size and power consumption, more CPU and RAM grunt. I suppose what I really want is an Opal in this tiny little box!
