Meet Flint 2 (GL-MT6000 )

Oof mine made a roundtrip all over france to just end up back in Cologne, and now they deliver it a day to early. Which I did not account for. :frowning:

Looking forward at your review  .

I just went back home and got my router to play with.
(Not that difficult since I work in the building next to it, haha)

First review: The device is powerful. And fast. And the Wi-Fi range is spectacular.
Even from the basement where I sit right now, the device can connect half of my house.

Device comes with firmware 4.5.2 (OpenWrt 23.05.0) and runs on max. 47 watts. (12 V, 4 A)
Supports Wi-Fi 6 with DFS (so 160 MHz channels) which makes it incredibly fast.

Tried mullvad VPN via Wireguard on our 1 Gbps line, resulted in 650 Mbps via Wi-Fi - which is pretty nice for out-of-the-box and just a short test without any modifications.

Try the VPN again but instead of WiFi use Ethernet…

Sadly I can’t test this since my connection at home is just 200mbps. But I am pretty sure that the speed of VPN will be simply great via ethernet.

But I tried it right now:
At home, my speed is the same with or without VPN. That’s outstanding.

FYI: There’s a newer beta…

V4.5.3 - Nov 21 ,2023
UI

  • Optimized language packs and prompts.
    WiFi
  • Fixed the probabilistic crash problem and restart wifi after relaying.
    IPv6
Fixed the low wired rate of pppoe in ipv6 native mode.

Congratulations :confetti_ball:
Are you really happy?

I am still waiting my order and no emails… :pensive:

Beta FW 4.5.3 release 1 has the best WiFi performance so far, it’s worthy of trying it out.

I am - totally!
Just a fantastic piece of hardware so far.

How is the idle power consumption?

I don’t have anything to measure it :frowning:

I am interesting question. Does have Homeassistant plugin inside? If yes, does work usb hub sonos (zigbee).
I am just trying my pi mini server put in new router flint2

I can’t recommend DHL Express, my package is in delivery since 07:45 AM. The post office closes in 20 minutes. The DHL Express support couldn’t help me and doesn’t even know where their drivers are or if my package is still on their delivery list. My package currently spends more time in Germany than it needed to get from China to Germany

Edit:

They delivered it to my home address instead, the driver was still delivering so late.

Here a size comparision:

I found some reviews, although they'll likely require you to enable subtitles.

In the first review the guy says that the router can't support mesh, which isn't exactly true because you can configure OpenWrt to support it.

Could you please tell me the connection link speed if you go up a floor and a room or two away from the router? On a laptop or desktop PC with Windows 10 you'll see that by going to settings, selecting network & internet, WiFi and then in the properties section it should say something like "Link speed (Receive/Transmit): 1081/1081 (Mbps)".

It'd be great if you could get some signal strength info via inSSIDer, WiFi Analyzer or WiFiman too since the wireless info is important to those of us who can't have hardwired connections.

Currently, sitting 1 floor upstairs and 1 room to the left:
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax)
1297 Mbps receiving / 288 Mbps sending

Old house, so stone walls.
Unfortunately, I can’t provide additional information about the signal strength.

To be honest: Just because OpenWrt could do it, I would not agree that it’s supported. For most consumers it won’t be.

If you're getting them speeds on a basic setup then that's not bad, since I'm currently using an Intel AX210 WiFi adapter with ALFA APA-M25 antennas pointed towards my current router, which ensures I get a good signal (-42 dBm) and link speeds over 1GB despite some brick walls and being upstairs. So it's possible I might get better speeds with a Flint 2.

Yeah. The default firmware might not have the packages available, but if it does then it should work.

Personally I'd probably eventually install the OpenWrt firmware anyway, since it's already supported.

Hi, do you know if the dutch language pack is included?

I translated it over the last few weeks want to know if my hard work payed off

Guess you’ll have to wait for yours (Or wait for another fellow countryman to report on it)…
On the several times I’ve been in Amsterdam I only ever met one guy who didn’t speak English…Pretty impressive…

I’m sorry, I don’t expect anyone to just instantly understand a foreign language. I just wanted to know if the option was available to switch to the dutch language pack.

hey, riktastic, thanks for your join, and the dutch language pack included in 4.5,furthermore,you are already become our one of dutch Project maintainers.

Are there are options to increase and decrease the WiFi power? I read somewhere that Chinese WiFi routers can produce more power than ASUS and international limits. Excited to get an upgrade from my ASUS RT-AC58U

Also can’t wait to get ADguard home working. Been using the DNS servers instead of my ISPs for a few years now and they work great.

Seems OpenWRT is at 23.05.2 since the 15th November. Hopefully Flint2 will get an upgrade soon. Maybe GL-inet wait for the bigger releases rather than the smaller ones?

Is all global shipping of the FLINT2 through DHL? I live in Australia. Thanks. Hoping my 16th Nov order is ready to ship soon
