Meet Marble (GL-B3000)

My pre order marble just arrived, happy with the device, but it has OpenWRT 19.x same as Mango2, will it get the latest 21.02 release?

Why do you need the 21.02 version?

Hi,

Confirmed it have schedule to update the OP version for B3000.

But as we know, we are working hard for this.

Hi I have a few questions about this one

  • can we change (reduce) the Tx power ?
  • can we use the WAN port as a normal LAN port ?
  • how should I put it to get the best wi-fi coverage (as it does not have external antennas) ?
  • does it support random BSSID (probably same answer for other models as well ?)

Hi @nobo ,
to answer two of your questions:

"can we change (reduce) the Tx power ?"
Yes, we can! You can choose between "Max", "High", "Medium" and "Low".
Click "WIRELESS" in the left-hand sidebar, click button "Modify", make your choice from picklist "TX Power", click button "Apply"

"does it support random BSSID (probably same answer for other models as well ?)"
Yes, it does!
Click "NETWORK" > "MAC Address" in the left-hand sidebar, click "Mode" tab "Manual", then "Random" in "MAC Adress" section and finally hit button "Apply"

Hope this helps

Hi,
I'm very happy with my Marbles, but are there already plans for upgrading the OpenWRT version? Version 19.07 is quite old for a quite new piece of hardware.
Also what i really miss it the possibility to install SQM. Is there any way to get it to work on a marble?

Best regards

The question you should answer is:
Why do you need a newer version?

I mean, is there any feature blocked due to the current firmware version?

As i wrote in my post above, i miss the possibility to install SQM or some kind of QoS. In the current version there is no "kmod-sched-cake" package in the repository and i hope this is fixed in newer version. Of course there could be a reason, why it's not in the repo (incompatibility for example), but would be nice to know then.

Aside from that, a software/firmware upgrade should not only depend on missing features. There are also bugfixes and security patches which will be included in newer versions. That is crucial for routers.

Marble uses qsdk_v12, so Qualcomm Software Development Kit 12, same as the Spitz Plus.
Latest is QSDK 12.5.5

Hopefully there will be a QSDK update soon, although we will probably stay on Openwrt 19.07 base until Qualcomm decides to update the base image.

I see, that's good to know. Thx for the reply.
Btw i was wrong about QoS. It is implemented and usable. Network acceleration must be disabled, which is also stated in the description. If I read it properly, I would've known that
SQM would still be nice though...
