Just purchased the new Gl.inet physical eSIM which arrived in the mail about 20min ago. I installed the eSIM in slot 2 as I have an existing provider's SIM card in slot 1. The eSIM Manage menu option under "Applications" is missing as documented in this help article: How to set up eSIM - GL.iNet Router Docs 4 (gl-inet.com)
I then tried rebooting the device, and the option was still not present.
I then moved the physical eSIM to slot 1, kept slot 2 empty, and rebooted again. Option still missing.
Lastly, I tried re-installing firmware version 4.4.11 with a final reboot, and the option is still not present.
What further steps are necessary so that the device will recognize the new physical eSIM and give me the "eSIM Manage" page within the UI?
Hi HeroicPeach,
Sorry, there are other function bugs about our standard firmware, so we don't upload it to our firmware server, please use our test firmware to test first, when I release standard firmware, I will tell you as soon as possible.
@Hoff Thank you! With the beta firmware installed, the option is now present as expected when the physical eSIM is active.
May I suggest that you and your team update the help documentation I linked in my original post to call out the fact that the currently available versions of the firmware do not yet support the card? This statement on that page " XE3000 : Please upgrade to firmware version V4.4.11" is clearly incorrect.
The benefit of an esim is the ability to load multiple esim based profiles but they're typically soldered to the phone. A regular sim is hard coded with a specific carrier's profile. Sometimes even the phone number. Can't be changed to anything else. GL.iNet have made a physical esim with all the benefits of the soldered one. You can also load a profile to the esim and then toss the esim card into an older phone without esim capabilities. Pretty cool if you ask me.
I downloaded the latest version of v4.7.1 beta (dated 2024-11-25) today, and the eSIM Management option was there as promised. I was able to install an eSIM using it, and the eSIM also worked. But ... when I rebooted the device, the eSIM Management option had disappeared (the installed eSIM still worked). Any ideas?
If you still have same problem, please refer to the link below to share device to me, and send your device mac address and password to my email(hoff.xin@gl-inet), I will help you to check remotely.
